From my favorite loony congresscritter:
"This cannot pass. What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't pass."
Okay. You first.
I heart Michele Bachmann.

Is it just me, or does she sound like she's trying to channel Gandalf on the bridge of Khazad Dum when the Balrog was attacking?

So... the Democrats are the Balrog? That seems a little... off, no?

Here are some photos of the types who support her, working hard on the protest lines:

Wow, my brain hurts from reading those moronic signs 'roachman ... thanks. ;o)

Michelle this is serious stuff. Slitting your wrist really won't do, better try your throat. Allow me to lend you a razor-blade. :) - DJ

Those signs are great. It is especially disheartening to see the "Stundents" protesting so effectively. The future is bleak for opposition if this is their next generation.
Posted by: MikeMa | September 2, 2009 10:10 AM
Blaidd Drwg @1: No, it's not just you.
Posted by: Adrienne | September 2, 2009 10:11 AM
Once she slits her risks - I'm sure her government provided health insurance will fix her right up.

"To slit our wrists"
Why does it sound like we will be hearing a news report sometime in the future that begins with "Tragedy today, as Michelle Bachmann and a hundred of her followers have been found......
Posted by: Thoracantha | September 2, 2009 10:28 AM
No, not Gandalf, the Black Knight form Monty Python & the Holy Grail:
"None shall pass!"
After much appendage loss this lead King Arthur to state, "You're a loony!", which is also applicable in this case.

Urg, sorry for the typos above, no coffee yet.
Posted by: Mreap | September 2, 2009 10:31 AM
I've been reading Jeff Sharlet's book The Family (had to after hearing him on Ed's show and on Reasonable Doubts). The line I quote above sounds much like what Doug Coe says often through out the book.

Hopefully all those wrist-slitting Rethuglicans have good health insurance.... Bah-dump!
Posted by: James Sweet | September 2, 2009 10:44 AM
Remember Michelle, it's "down the lane" not "across the street".
Posted by: Joshua White | September 2, 2009 10:44 AM
That is just so ... pagan!
Posted by: Scott Hanley | September 2, 2009 10:45 AM
Excuse me, did I just read that Michele Bachmann is encouraging her followers to slit their wrists? And has offered to do the same to herself?
Geez, I hope they have good health insurance with mental health benefits.
Posted by: Julie Stahlhut | September 2, 2009 10:54 AM
Why is everyone hoping Bachmann and her fellow wrist-slitters have good health insurance? I'm quite sure that inside you're all hoping that she follows through on this threat, and that she has no health insurance at all.

Ed,
A link to the original quote would be appreciated. I have no way of judging this quote out of context.
Thank you.

I will never understand why people in her MN district keep voting for Bachmann.
That is, unless they truly enjoy their Congressional Rep being a national laughingstock.

Paul Lundgren:
Here's the first link I found. Google could assuredly find you more.

See the above for the quote. It's quite easy to find.

Just remember, Michelle - when cutting wrists, go downtown, not across the street.
I knew she was a moron, but she's emo now too?
Posted by: TheEnigma32 | September 2, 2009 11:55 AM
Paul @18: I don't see how putting this quote *in context* could make it that much better.

Blaidd Drwg @ #1:
No, no, no, you've got it all wrong.
Bachmann is on the bridge of Khazad-Dumb.
Posted by: Benjamin Geiger | September 2, 2009 12:32 PM
I will never understand Minnesota voters. Somebody is just gonna come clean that Michelle was just a giant practical joke on Congress....right? ....right?
Posted by: PhilB | September 2, 2009 12:33 PM
Benjamin Geiger @26: I think you won the thread.
Posted by: Adrienne | September 2, 2009 12:36 PM
Benjamin @26:
Thank you. both my inner and outer geeks are smiling now.
Posted by: PhilB | September 2, 2009 12:37 PM
Don't you get it? Those protesters didn't misspell their signs; they're just going for a lolcat theme. Even Glenn Beck doing it. Lolcats are taking over the (wingnut side of) the world!
Posted by: catgirl | September 2, 2009 12:44 PM
Further to Benjamin Geiger (#26) -
Well at least Bachmann-mouth-in-overdrive will stab Billo in the back, just before get it in the back herself from an elven arrow, of course. - DJ

As an aspiring Death Panelist, I am just waiting for Michelle.
Posted by: kehrsam | September 2, 2009 12:58 PM
I don't know, the skeptic in me is having a hard time taking all those pictures at face value. I'm sure more than a few are altered pictures of the signs from the link above.
Posted by: Steve | September 2, 2009 1:10 PM
Those protester photos have not been altered in anyway. I do not think the retired union worker who took all of the first set of photos at teabagger rallys even knows how to photoshop. At least he has never mentioned to me that he can or even has photoshop on his computer.

Isn't it a crime to make a suicide pact? I've certainly never heard an elected offcial make a suicide pact with the electorate before.

Ace of Sevens: I've certainly never heard an elected offcial make a suicide pact with the electorate before.
If it gets carried out, it will earn a very, very special Darwin Award.
Posted by: abb3w | September 2, 2009 4:06 PM
The "Morans" photo was circulating long before the Teabag rallies. It was taken at a pro-war rally IIRC.
Posted by: Savagemutt | September 2, 2009 4:11 PM
There was also a photo, from the Republican convention, of some guy in a suit with a sign that said "KEEP AMEIRCA STRONG!"
Posted by: Raging Bee | September 2, 2009 4:30 PM
You all can sit there and mock her and those of her ilk, but they're winning this battle, and there will probably be no significant reform of health care this year, which means not anytime in the next few years, either.
Posted by: peter | September 2, 2009 8:16 PM
I find it funny how a legislator who has government healthcare can talk about the evils of government healthcare. Or did she waive her coverage and get private insurance?
Posted by: uknesvuinng | September 2, 2009 8:39 PM
Did Bachmann have a sex change? Even in the non-literal context in which she used the word, the term "blood brothers" only applies to males.
Posted by: daniel rotter | September 2, 2009 11:58 PM
Pleeeease Michelle Bachmann, slit your wrists! Make sure to cut lengthways along the arteries or veins because if you slit crossways and completely sever the artery/vein it does a pretty good job of closing up the wound as the smooth muscles contract.
@daniel rotter: Shhh, don't try to edumacate her; I'm sure Thomas Jefferson himself said that dumb bimbos can be blood brothers - it's even in the bible!
