This really has to be heard. It's from Rush Limbaugh's radio show where he takes a call and defends not only those idiot parents pulling their kids out of school but also the even more idiotic claim that the speech violated federal law.

Limbaugh on Obama's School Speech
Posted on: September 9, 2009 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Comments
I'm sure Limbaugh's comments are very insightful and thought provoking. But I'll never know.

I am now MUCH more stupid than I was 2:10 ago. Thanks for that, Ed.
Posted by: kehrsam | September 9, 2009 9:45 AM
See children, this is why you mandate piss tests for all your employees, not just the low level shlubs.
Posted by: History Punk | September 9, 2009 9:53 AM
I've seen these meme a half dozen times. Not sure who came up with it first.
Posted by: yoshi | September 9, 2009 10:05 AM
So, let me see if I have this straight: Rush thinks rants that Obama is a "socialist radical" who is "standing [democracy] on its head" and "taking over" schools by addressing schoolchildren on the importance of setting goals, studying, and working hard in school.
If Obama's speech was indoctrination and propaganda, I say let's have some more of it!
Posted by: cognitive dissident | September 9, 2009 10:24 AM
Uh, who came up with this?? It can't be REAL . . . NO one in his right mind would say something like thi . . . .
Oh.
Rush.
Nevermind.
Posted by: DDF | September 9, 2009 10:29 AM
"It's illegal for the federal government to waltz into local schools and take over."
Did Rush somehow miss the number of schools that simply said "no thanks" to having their kids hear the president's speech. Isn't the very fact that they did so irrefutable evidence that he did not in fact "take over"?
Oh, wait. I just wasted logic on Rush Limbaugh. Talk about casting pearls before swine.
Posted by: James Hanley | September 9, 2009 10:45 AM
The President of the United States gives a speech to school children. In this speech he touts allegedly traditionally conservative viewpoints such as hard work, responsibility, dedication to learning, etc., and it is, according to the lunatic fringe, a radical anti-establishment indoctrination?
How do Republicans win elections again???
Posted by: dogmeatib | September 9, 2009 10:47 AM
If Obama can indoctrinate my kid in 30 minutes can he at least tell him to clean his room? I'd be willing to put up with socialism as long as I didn't have to step on toys that were left on the floor.
Posted by: Atheist in Florida | September 9, 2009 11:08 AM
The speach was socialist in the sense that he said that you don't have to be born a member of the ruling class.

"It's illegal for the federal government to waltz into local schools and take over."
Unless we are talking about No Child Left Behind, right?
Posted by: Iason Ouabache | September 9, 2009 11:41 AM
The federal government did waltz into Little Rock that one time in 1957. It was found to be a legal intervention, but was somewhat controversial at the time. Not sure what that has to do with the Negro on teevee talking to the kids.

I wonder how Mr. L would view the old Milwaukee Sewer Socialists (you know, honest politics, public health, strong local early education)?
Posted by: jimspice | September 9, 2009 12:37 PM
Nope, Nope, Nope. I have read, watched and listened to many different things for this blog, but no way will I listen to Rush ever again. When I was an undergraduate in college I was forced to listen to him if I wanted to ride the free bus around campus (I walked in the snow - lots) and when I worked on thin sections in lab. Won't do it again. Nope.
Posted by: pHred | September 9, 2009 12:56 PM
I listened to Rush once years ago. I was driving between big cities and was dialing around and caught this garrulous clown taking calls where all the callers said was 'ditto'. It was a riot, call after call. You could almost hear his ego growing with each 'ditto'. Only when he changed topics did I get any idea of what he was about or what the 'dittoheads' were agreeing with.
I found some rock and roll and have not tuned into his crack from that time till this.
Posted by: MikeMa | September 9, 2009 1:30 PM
Limbaugh is a fucktard.
Posted by: Owen | September 9, 2009 3:36 PM
I stopped listening to this clown at least a decade ago after I heard him whipping himself into a frenzy with some caller about how Man can't destroy Earth, it's a whole planet, how big are the egos of these environmentalist clowns to think that wee-Man could destroy an entire planet. If I could have reached through my radio and twisted the tongue out of his mouth right then, I could have saved the country a lot of pain. Instead, I just decided never to listen to him again. It's one thing to search out opposing viewpoints for balance, but another entirely to subject yourself to this jackass.
Posted by: Andrea | September 9, 2009 3:42 PM
Wow, what a guy. He would rather American kids eat lunch or skip classes than be addressed by their President.
And rather than let the caller express an alternate viewpoint, he cuts her off an goes off on some inane rant.
Being Canadian, I've only ever heard OF Limbaugh. You know, for those drug arrests. I don't think I need to hear more.
Posted by: red rabbit | September 9, 2009 4:45 PM
Wow. Just... wow. It's hard to even parse this kind of compressed stupidity. Let's just take his opening statement.
Obama said nice things about education and working hard but he didn't actually MEAN them (despite being himself an excellent example of both).
So therefore... um... therefore... the children will somehow pick up on his lack of sincerity (since they can't be reasonably expected to know his policies) and become "indoctrinated" not by his words, but, uh, I guess the opposite of his words, and will then grow up to become anti-democratic, lazy socialists.
Because the President said nice things for 30 minutes.
Is that about it? I can't really tell any more since my brain melted.
Posted by: Michael Hoaglin | September 9, 2009 8:15 PM
On today's show, Limbaugh explained that Obama's call for responsibility to the community = Communism, in so many words.
I'm also mystified as to why Limbaugh and his listeners so fervently believe that Obama doesn't care about personal responsibility. Other than their a priori hatred of him.
Posted by: Grumpy | September 9, 2009 11:33 PM
When Rush looks at himself in the mirror in the morning, I wonder what he imagines that he sees?
Posted by: earthling48 | September 10, 2009 3:13 AM
So; it's illegal for the President to just waltz into schools and take over.
Help me here; where exactly was President Bush on 11 September 8 years ago?
Posted by: Robin Levett | September 10, 2009 7:50 AM
Sure it is illegal for Obama to take over a local school district or give them orders (at least without an act of congress or a court order to justify it which clearly has not happened here. But Obama did not take over the schools in the speech. No school was required by Obama or the federal government to do anything regarding the speech. The teachers, administrators, and school board had the ultimate power over whether or not their televisions were on, what they were tuned to, and who was able to watch.
Or did the press miss thousands of armed troops through out the land putting guns to the heads of teachers forcing them to have a TV tuned to speech? I don't think so.
Obama just like every president before him has the right to give speeches. Indeed almost everyone else has that right too with the biggest exception being those locked up because of a criminal conviction. It is the decision of various media outlets whether or not to cover the speech. (Though now one theoretically could bypass them and go to YouTube, etc.) And it is the right the rest of the country to decide whether or not to watch. This is what has happened for this Obama speech. And indeed every other speech he has made as well as his predecessors.

"...Limbaugh and his listeners so fervently believe that Obama doesn't care about personal responsibility."
Limbaugh says these things because it generates money for him. I really don't know whether he believes what he says.
Posted by: dean | September 10, 2009 11:14 AM
Does anyone really think Rush would take personal responsibility for the lies he knowing spouts? If he did he would be non-hypocritical, and we can't possibly have RRR shokjoks who are non-hypocritical, can we? - DJ

Wait, you made thin sections while being forced to listen to Limbaugh??? How did you not grind through the chip, the glass and the holder?
