I’ve been so busy with other things lately that I’ve forgotten to even mention the new fossil find, Ardi, or Ardipithecus ramidus. Thankfully, my pal DarkSyde already did it for me. He provides a good layman’s version of how to diagnose hominid fossils in the process.
I still don’t like that this find was announced with a TV special and all the hype. I don’t think that’s healthy for science. But at least in this case, the fossil specimen itself really is worth the hype and it really does give us a wealth of new information about how humans evolved, even if this particular specimen is not a direct ancestor.
