Worst. Campaign. Website. Ever.

Posted on: November 3, 2009 9:30 AM, by Ed Brayton

Someone sent me a link to this godawful campaign website for a guy named George Hutchins, who is running for Congress in North Carolina. This site makes some MySpace pages look understated by comparison. And true to wingnut form, it's written like it was scrawled on the back of a Piggly Wiggly bag in crayon, with randomly capitalized words and punctuation that would make an English teacher have a heart attack. Like this:

"In addition to MASS VOTING FRAUD, it was these same RINO'S, and same Fence-Riders, which caused the Republicans to lose big during the 2008 elections, in both, North Carolina, and Nationwide."

And he seems to want to turn back the clock to before the civil rights era:

To stop the OBAMA-NATION Socialists in Washington DC, we must first go to the root of the POISON TREE, which created all them.

This POISON TREE, is the "Social Engineering" located within the so-called 1964 Civil Rights Act, to the U.S. Constitution.

The ONLY REASON, the so-called 1964 Civil Rights Act passed, was due the fact, Lyndon B. JOHNSON, had many political debts owed to him, in 1964.

=> During 1964, if one did NOT repay their political debts, when they were called due, such a politician's political career was over.

=> Lyndon B. JOHNSON called all his debts in 1964.

To DEFEAT OBAMA-NATION, we must take a close look at all of the "Social Engineering" contained in the so called 1964 Civil Rights Act, and take legal steps to remove this "Social Engineering" contained in the so-called 1964 Civil Rights Act.

"Social Engineering," includes FORCED DIVERSITY, FORCED RACIAL INTEGRATION, Affirmative Action Quotas Based on Race, and all Privileges Based on Race, which are influenced by the so-called 1964 Civil Rights Act to the U.S. Constitution.

We must use all of our resources NOW, to prevent ALL future U.S. Generations from suffering under the same bondage which were forced upon all of us, due to the so-called 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Uh, George...the Civil Rights Act did not amend the Constitution. It was statutory law only. And it didn't put you in bondage, for crying out loud.

"America was Founded upon the Teachings of the Christian Bible, and the Teachings of the Jewish Torah, allowing Voluntary Tolerance for all Minorities."

Charming. And he has some interesting historical misconceptions:

"All major civilizations, since the beginning of recorded time, have fallen into DECLINE, and DECAY, once the majority citizens of each society, had ACCEPTED GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, to be normal standards of conduct, in open public places."

"It is uncertain, whether GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL ACCEPTANCE was the cause of the DECLINE, or if GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL ACCEPTANCE was a symptom of the DECLINE."

"The British Empire FELL by 1946, following the Second World War, were at this time, GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became ACCEPTED as normal public behavior, by most British citizens."

=>"Before 1946, the British Empire Ruled the World, dictating MOST global economic markets, and had the World's Strongest Military, until following the end of World War Two. {1939-1945}"

"The German Weimar Republic, {1919-1933}, a Democratic Government, which existed in Germany, following World War One, [1914-1918], was very tolerant, and ACCEPTED GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL CONDUCT, in Germany, as normal public behavior."

=>"Germany, during the time of Weimar Republic, {1919-1933}, became so CHAOTIC, Adolf Hitler was able to march in, SUSPENDING many German Legal Civil Liberties, just in one possible route, to restore safe public order, in Germany, by putting down the Weimar Republic, resulting in countless public freedom abuses in Germany, after the FALL of the Weimar Republic, under Adolf Hitler."

"The Greek Empire FELL to the Romans, once public GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became ACCEPTED, as normal public behavior, by most Greeks."

"By 400 A.D., 400 years after the birth of Christ, GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became, ACCEPTED as normal public behavior, among most Roman Citizens."

=>"By 400 A.D., The Roman Empire was FALLING apart, and Ebbing in all Roman areas."

"California, during the 1950's, 1960's, and early 1970's, was the BEST place on EARTH to be."

"By the YEAR 2000, SAN FRANCISCO GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became, ACCEPTED as normal public behavior, among Most California Residents."

=>"Since the YEAR 2000, California has been going down the drain, and California is NOW NOT such a GREAT place to be."

Wow.

Describing beyond, throughout the 10 year decade of the 1990's, which spans, {1989 - 1999}, in addition to, well into the NEW CENTURY, beyond the year 2000, {2004 - 2007}, in addition to required U.S. Military Service, I have made many more Great private civilian resident travels overseas, for extended periods of time, which were a great learning adventure.

While on extended private overseas residents travels, throughout key parts of the world, since the year 1989, I have noticed clearly, how SOCIALISM, Legalized Marijuana use, and open public tolerance, for GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL misconduct, has harmed all nations, influenced by the English speaking world, to include GERMANY.

There are many Great Wonders to see overseas, especially in Europe, which are part of our American Heritage; but, it is a shame to go to England, Scotland, Holland, and even Germany, to see a type of moral decay, which would DISGUST most REAL CONSERVATIVES, where we MUST FIGHT to NOT go this foul direction, in America.

Yeah, it's terrible living in Europe. Healthcare even if you can't pay for it. Awful. We can't go in that foul direction. As for Scotland? It's a hotbed of sinful activity.

He has used a lifetime's worth of commas. I, thought, I, was, bad.

Mr. Hutchins posts a comment in his own forum apologizing to the fictional characters of the old TV comedy series Sanford & Son*.

His 'rationale' for his so-called apology? Because they [these fictional TV characters] are "better than the entire Barack Hussein Obama gang!!!"

Wow, this guy has a real hard-on for lesbians.

I love the way he sprinkles the names of famous people around his page, almost as if they endorsed him: Davy Cockett, John Wyane, Sir Walter Raleigh, Jessie Helms, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan...

Better yet, you’ve got to love this dressing down from the state Chairman his own party.

Dear Mr. Hutchins, We live in a great country and I have never known a day that I didn’t feel blessed to live in our nation and proud to be an American. I am also proud to be a Republican because I believe our message and our common values is America’s best hope to secure a future that is prosperous and free for all our people. I am an active and vocal opponent of many of the policies of our President and Democrat Leadership in Congress. I am proud of that too. As Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party I was not proud, nor edified, by the contents of your campaign website. Frankly, I find certain elements – in particular the direct comparison of President Obama and his family to Sanford and Son and other similar representations to be reprehensible and far outside the spirit and meaning of Republican values. Let me be clear, you may hold your own opinions and state them freely. That is your right as an American. But displaying the North Carolina Republican Party Seal on your web-page is not your right. It does not belong to you and, in my opinion as Chairman, I do not want our party associated with some of your views. Please immediately remove our seal from your site and any campaign materials. As State Party Chairman I generally avoid getting involved in primaries. But if you file for an elective office as a Republican, I will make an exception in your case. Ow. That website is painful.

He's incidentally also wrong about Great Britain and the acceptance of gays. Alan Turing was convicted for being gay in 1952 for example and prosecutions for sodomy continued in England to about 1970 or so (I don't know about the rest of the United Kingdom but certainly prosecutions occurred well after 1946).

Also, what Bible and Torah is this guy reading that he thinks these are documents that promote toleration (I think he means Tanach not Torah here but that's a separate issue...)

I couldn't help but notice that things that he considers "bad" are in green lettering (e.g., DAVID PIERCE, "OBAMA-NATION", CRIME, Lyndon B. JOHNSON, etc.). However, he's got "Marine Corps" and "1991 IRAQ-Kuwait War" in green lettering, too. Why does he hate the troops? (Especially since he seems to have served in both the US Army and US Marine Corps... unless the USMC George Hutchins is different than the USArmy George Hutchins.)

And why the hate against July 5, 2008? And "Tear down this wall"?

Yeah, but JFK was in the Navy (as was "Lyndon B. JOHNSON"), and Hutchins is a proud USArmy veteran. ...or is that USMC veteran? Either way, I'm sure that is what he's referring to. And Gerald Ford was also Navy, so that doesn't likely count either. Carter was also a Navy guy, but never served in combat ("Direct" or otherwise), so he doesn't count either.

Reagan? Sure, he was in the USArmy, but he never saw "Direct Combat". (Plus, Reagan was in the US Air Corps... So he was actually an early Air Force guy; not "true Army".)

But what about Ike? (Or does being Commanding General in Europe not count as "Direct Combat"?)

Speaking as a British subject* (who does ACCEPT GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR) I wouldn't say that it is accepted as normal public behavior even now, let alone 60 years ago. Gay men and women are generally tolerated rather than accepted.

Just doing a check on Wikipedia to see how much further off-base Hutchins is with his "last President to see Direct Combat" claim. Presidents after Teddy:

* Taft: Secretary of War (no military career, though)
* Wilson: No military service.
* Harding: No military service.
* Coolidge: No military service.
* Hoover: No military service.
* Roosevelt: No military service.
* Truman: USArmy Battery D, 129th Field Artillery, 60th Brigade, 35th Infantry Division. Saw action in WWI.
* Eisenhower: USArmy Commanding General, European Theater of Operations, WWII (only 5-star general to become POTUS).
* Kennedy: USNavy, Commanding Officer of Motor Torpedo Boat 109. Saw action in WWII.
* Johnson: USNavy, 22nd Bomb Group. Saw action in WWII.
* Ford: USNavy, assistant navigator, Athletic Officer, and antiaircraft battery officer on board the USS Monterey. Saw action in WWII.
* Nixon: USNavy. Never saw combat.
* Carter: USNavy. Never saw combat.
* Reagan: USArmy. Never saw combat.
* Bush: USNavy, Torpedo Squadron (VT-51). Saw combat in WWII.
* Clinton: No military service.
* Bush: No military service (outside Texas ANG).
* Obama: No military service.

So... no Presidents in "direct combat" since Teddy Roosevelt? I don't think so. But anyway, why write that down? I mean, the guy's not running for President! Couldn't he find photos of other politicians who were in the military (some more recently than him)?

As a potential RINO who ran far, far away from the party upon seeing the up-and-coming leadership, I can say that the reason the GOP suffered the way it did in the last eight years has everything to do with the way it set itself up. Building a dependency on the religious right frightened away a lot of the secular conservatives. One of the reasons why I don't see myself voting for a Republican Presidential candidate until I'm in my 30s, at least.

Also, I happen to think California is a fine place to live. San Francisco is pretty nice, too. I don't mind getting hit on periodically by gay men when I go there to visit a few of my friends that live there, it's a nice confidence builder. And California may be in a budget crunch right now, but we'll recover. We're still an economic powerhouse, and I'm pretty proud of my state.

And, unfortunately, we're not that tolerant of homosexuality (at least, not as tolerant as I would like to be). See Prop 8.

"The British Empire FELL by 1946, following the Second World War, were at this time, GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became ACCEPTED as normal public behavior, by most British citizens."

Yeah, that big war the British had to fight, much of it in their own airspace, had nothing to do with the loss of their Empire. What was that war called again? You know, the one that ended the year before...? (Oh, and IIRC, the British didn't lose India, Pakistan and the Middle East until 1948. This guy's about as consistently wrong as Dick Cheney.)

"The Greek Empire FELL to the Romans, once public GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became ACCEPTED, as normal public behavior, by most Greeks."

Um..."GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR" was "ACCEPTED" the whole time, when they were the predominant naval, scientific and cultural power in the Agean. I guess that's why all good Christians have to reject and ignore everything they've contributed to Western Civilization, right?

=>"Germany, during the time of Weimar Republic, {1919-1933}, became so CHAOTIC, Adolf Hitler was able to march in, SUSPENDING many German Legal Civil Liberties, just in one possible route, to restore safe public order, in Germany, by putting down the Weimar Republic, resulting in countless public freedom abuses in Germany, after the FALL of the Weimar Republic, under Adolf Hitler."

...with, I must add, the full-throated (and empty-headed) support of insane bigots like Hutchins. Funny, he doesn't try to compare the damage done by gays to the damage done by gay-bashers.

=>"Since the YEAR 2000, California has been going down the drain, and California is NOW NOT such a GREAT place to be."

Yeah, Republican refusal to raise revenue to fund that state's government has nothing to do with California's current state. This item shows Right-wing scapegoating at its most obvious: when faced with the damage his fellow wingnuts have done to a healthy and advanced state, this wingnut hides from reality by blaming gays for the damage done.

And yes, he does have a serious hangup about gays, as well as lesbians. He probably has serious hangups about straight men and women as well.

1. I haven't checked every link, but Hutchins seems more obsessed with "GAY MALE HOMOSEXUALS" (always in all-cap pinkish-purple type) than lesbians. In particular, most of his "Culture War" page is about how GAY MALE HOMOSEXUALS have brought down civilization after civilization. (He also refers to the Republican former incumbent as WILLIAM "B.J." LAWSON, as in "Is WILLIAM "B.J." LAWSON a GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL, in spite of being married with children?" Lawson apparently goes by the nickname "BJ"--a fact that Hutchins seems to find completely riveting.)

My guess is: Closet case.

2. In Hutchins' defense, we really should have a rule that all candidates have to put together their own Web sites. Judging by this one, it absolutely lays their intelligence and obsessions out for display.

Re shay

I may be wrong about this but I seem to recall that President Eisenhower did see combat in WW1 as a low ranking infantry officer. By the way, the comparison of Eisenhower and Rommel is not altogether fair as Rommel was not the overall commander in France at the time of Operation Overlord. Field Marshall Gerd von Rundstedt was the overall commander in France. In fact, there was a dispute between the two men as to the deployment of the German defenses. Rommel thought that they should be deployed close to the beaches to attack the invading troops while they were still in the water. von Rundstedt thought that they should be deployed out of range of naval gunfire and be in a position to counterattack after the landing when the naval gunfire was stopped to avoid friendly fire casualties.

Re Hutchins

Mr. Hutchins claim that Great Britains' decline began after WW 2 is complete horsepucky. The decline of Great Britain began at the end of the 19th century when its industrial output was surpassed by Germany. As a for instance, the British Navy on which the defense of Great Britain rested was technologically inferior to the German fleet, particularly with regards to gunnery and ship protection; in addition, the British shells which were fired at Jutland were defective and broke up instead of penetrating when impacting at any angle not close to 90 degrees.

The British Empire FELL by 1946, following the Second World War, were at this time, GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR, became ACCEPTED as normal public behavior, by most British citizens

WTF? Gay sex was illegal until 1967, and we still have to deal with more than our fair share of crap from a big percentage of those british citizens. This guy is not just crazy, he's a fecking idiot.

The ability to string seemingly random words together is strong in this one. Neither history nor English are his forte. He doesn't seem to understand US government all that well either. Politics at any level above dogcatcher should be unattainable.

In other words, he's an ideal Republican candidate.

I'm currently trying to list in my head empires that fell that didn't so much openly accept GAY MALE HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR. Let's see...

Holy Roman Empire
Ottoman Empire
Mongol Empire
Imperial/Shogunate Japan
Chinese Empire (I'm pretty sure that most of the dynasties weren't fans. Could be wrong, though, it's been a while since my Asian History class...)
Persian Empire (fell to those boy-loving Greeks...)
Egyptian Empire (fell to those boy-loving Greeks. Hadrian's gay lover drowned while on a cruise on the Nile...)
Tzarist Russia (fell to the godless Commies, who also weren't big fans of teh gay, as I recall...)
That Thousand-Year Reich I keep hearing so much about
Don't think the Sassanids liked teh gay
Ditto the Byzantines, at least at the end, y'know, when they were being overrun by the Ottomans...
The Hapsburgs didn't like teh gay
Neither did Napoleon
The Mughal Empire

Y'know, what? I think I'll stop right there...

The British Empire fell in 1946 because of Britain's acceptance of homosexuality? Homosexuality was still illegal in Britain in 1946. Britain had the strongest military in the world in 1939? Dunkirk? Malaya? Singapore? Has he not heard of our humiliation in the Far East? This isn't funny it's scary. Sometimes I find Americans very scary

I may be wrong about this but I seem to recall that President Eisenhower did see combat in WW1 as a low ranking infantry officer.

Eisenhower never left the states during WWI. He was involved in training tank crews in Georgia and Texas. His first assignment outside of the US was in the Canal Zone in 1922.

Re Tom

I stand corrected. I must have been thinking of MacArthur and Patton, both of whom saw action in France in WW1. I believe, in fact, that Patton was wounded at some point.

Forgive me if I'm repeating someone else's comment, but what jumped out at me aside from the run-of-the-mill ultra-right crap on Hutchins' site was the small banner at the bottom saying (among other things) that he "supports" Fox News as if it's part of his platform alongside opposing issues like gay marriage, GM bailouts, everything Obama does, et al.

Is Hutchins under the impression that Fox News is a key issue in the election, or is he just sucking up to spoonfed Sean Hannity cultists?

Sorry, I think I just answered my own question...

Also, check out the following at the very bottom of Hutchins' site...

http://georgehutchins.activeboard.com/

On the forums Hutchins (or someone else) set up about six weeks ago, among the several ideologically-loaded threads listed ("Left Wing Democrats/Socialists HATE Veteran's Day", etc.) only one person has replied to any of them.

One.

And that was to correct Hutchins for his claim that tea party marches were attended only by arch-right wingers.

Otherwise, every other thread is untouched.

Yes, Patton was wounded, I've read a number of reports on the severity, from bad to life threatening, etc. It was during the St. Mihiel offensive in late 1918. MacArthur was apparently injured by gas, no actual shell or bullet wounds that I ever heard of.

Eisenhower never actually saw combat except as a staff officer or as a higher level commanding officer. It was one of the arguments made against him once he became a senior officer in Europe and was considered for the overall joint command of the D-Day invasion (his lack of combat experience). A really quite well written book about his history and his relationship with George Marshal, Partners in Command by Mark Perry came out a couple of years ago. It also mentions some of the conflicts within the army, Patton, Eisenhower, MacArthur, etc.

Speaking as a British subject*...

*We're subjects of Her Maj. rather than citizens a point which I would like to try and do something about.

Actually, this is a common misconception (even among Britons). Since the British Nationality Act 1981, we are, in fact, "British citizens" in official legal terminology. (The legal category which used to be known as "British subjects" is now divided into three: British citizens, British Dependent Territories citizens and British Overseas citizens.)

Michael Heath, I suspect the Republicretins and the ninny fence voters have gotten somewhat energized by the fact that, ho noes, Obama is in office.

Also, McDonnell is a smarmy evil stupid misogynist git from Regent Cult House.

Posted by: Katharine | November 3, 2009 10:34 PM

81

Also, there were a large number of people in Virginia who apparently didn't listen to anything either of the candidates actually said, but were all 'duhhhhhhhh Creigh Deeds don't talk good and McDonnell talk good'.

I think living in Virginia may contribute somewhat to the fact that I have a rather long-standing hatred of most things human. At least, today it does. Because at least 60% of Virginia has less brains than a fucking Staphylococcus aureus bacterium.

I'm not sure how most of the Virginian population actually walks on two feet if they're this stupid.

Possibly, but statistics (and, less persuasively, my anecdotal experience) indicates that liberals tend to be, on average, smarter than conservatives.

In addition, I'd like to apologize to the nation for New York's 23rd congressional district for (potentially) electing a Tea Party Fuckface. I tried, people, but there are a lot of dumb folks around.

re: Virginia -- Deeds (the Democrat) was a lousy speaker with a lame campaign. There was a brief shining moment when Deeds started talking about McDonnell's loony-Christian-Reich background, but he didn't go anywhere with it and the ads just got repetitive. I got DOZENS of robocalls, which led me to wonder whether they were effectively reaching out to independents, which I'm not. Also, the Republicans got a lot of mileage out of Deeds' stuttering around the issue of whether he might raise taxes (SACRILEGE-ELEVENTY-ONE!!!11!!!!one). And, like most Democrats, Deeds sucked at bragging about his party's past accomplishments.

Oh well, at least we can say it's not really a referendum on Obama -- this race was about Virginia issues, not national issues; and VA Republicans aren't directly connected to any of the Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin failures.

I just left the Democratic Election Night festivities at a local function room.

Hoffman, the NY Conservatard Party's fuckbag of a candidate conceded to Owens. Dede Scozzafava, the GOP's handpicked candidate (whom they threw under the bus when Hoffman started polling better than her) got her revenge. She pulled just enough votes to sabotage Hoffman's chances. And he is one creepy looking mofo. His concession speech was an "I'll be back" moment. Fucker looks like Willard, has doll's eyes and doesn't blink much.

I really hope that the GOP's "advisers" take a look at this and decide to go "all in" in 2010 with a batch of Hoffman clones.

I particularly liked his travel pics, it's nice to bring back souvenirs. And have you seen his YouTube postings of Al Jolson singing "Mammy" and the "Mr. Bojangles" scene? Holy crap, my jaw hit the floor (yes, even after looking at THAT website).
Still, comparing McCain to Archie Bunker and himself to Ringo Starr based on looks (or so he's been told) pretty much took the Prozac award for me. Double Dose.

Incredibly garish? Check.

Poorly laid out? Check.

Ineptly constructed? Check.

Fails validation? Check: Home page shows "81 errors, 4 warnings found when checking this document as HTML 4.01 Transitional."

Oh, content? You ask about content? Any politician who is inspired by the title of Jerome Corsi's second book (The Obama Nation) is immediately suspect in my book. Add to that his endorsement of Fox News and claimed endorsement by Jesse Helms, and it's one-two-three strikes you're out. He's also confused about history, and he can only manage to write a grammatical sentence about one out of three times.

It was really funny and full of typos. I'm almost certain Ed linked to it from here but I can't find the link anymore : (

Does anyone have any suggestions?
