Is Farah Klayman's Agent?

Posted on: December 15, 2009 9:16 AM, by Ed Brayton

I had to laugh when I read this headline at the Worldnutdaily:

worldnetdaily headline24.jpg

And to whom are they referring? To Larry Klayman, for crying out loud. Klayman was the founder of Judicial Watch, though he somehow managed to get thrown out of his own organization later. He's a more well known version of Larry Fafarman, jumping in to issues he knows nothing about and suing anyone and everyone - and almost invariably wrong.

Back in 2005, Klayman and I tangled over the Terri Schiavo case on the debut episode of Jim Babka's now-defunct radio show. Klayman had teamed up with uber-nut Alan Keyes to petition Jeb Bush to intervene, ignore the courts and send in the state police to protect Schiavo. But he knew very little about the case, in reality, and quite frankly embarrassed himself on that radio show. Here's how Jim Babka described the debate afterward:

Brayton, who argued that the outcome of Terri's case was correct, was well-prepared and forensically strong. I think Mr. Klayman, who was primarily upset with Jeb Bush's failure to intervene and rescue Terri, is used to shorter interviews because after his four or five-bullet point initial statement he crumbled into almost entirely ad hominem arguments. He called one set of judges morons, his opposing guest an idiot (but then quickly corrected himself, and said he meant to say his ideas were idiocy), and so on. The most interesting moment in the show is when the conservative Republican lawyer said, "I don't care what Justice Scalia thinks, he's an intellectual lightweight...one of my least favorite Justices."

Most of the show focused on the role of the Courts. Klayman tried to dodge a question about state sovereignty and federalism, but ultimately conceded that he has little regard for such things when he insisted on the justification that, "Congress does stuff all the time."

Brayton handled my two toughest questions for him, but I wasn't finished with him. There were several things I wanted to ask. He was so confident and forceful he managed to keep Klayman on the defensive the whole time, and I didn't have enough time to ask him the remaining questions I have...

You can read Ed Brayton's opinion of how he thought the show went here. If Larry Klayman ever writes about it, and I find out, I'll link to that as well. But I'm guessing Larry would prefer to forget.

Yeah, Obama should be terrified. Klayman is a buffoon, a carnival barker on the political midway.

Is there an mp3 of this debate anywhere? If so, I'd love to hear it.

"Congress does stuff all the time!"
Greatest response ever! And I agree with Wes, I'd love to find an mp3 of this.

There was an mp3 of it at one point, but I don't have it anymore. I posted it on my old blog at stcynic.com, but when I let that domain expire I forgot to preserve that file. And it was on an old computer, so I don't have it on a hard drive here anymore. I wish I still had it too.

Ed, is this the blog post the post referenced above?

Do we know if Mr. Klayman ever wrote about it?

Several years ago, asshole Klayman appeared on panel discussing the use of medical marijuana on cancer and AIDS patients undergoing chemotherapy to mitigate the side effects of such therapy. Mr. Klaymans' position was that the patients should try prayer instead! I also seem to recall reading that Mr. Klayman once sued his mother!

No, he never wrote about it as far as I know.

My link in above post was broken, here it is: http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2005/04/jim_babkas_report_on_brayton_v.php

It's worth the read.

Michael, I'm guessing this one, as that one quotes the link that would be to itself.

...

That made more sense in my head.

You are aware that Bush did in fact send his state police to move Schiavo, but when confronted by local police, they decided not to play SWAT team?

Apparently only the Miami Herald ran the story (3/26/05). The original story is apparently not online anymore, a copy of it is here. CBS News also reported the story.

Shortly afterwards, Bush gave his little speech that he doesn't have as much power as people think he does.

(Google marbin schiavo 26 if you want to find more references.)

Paul Schofield - I think you're right. Your link didn't have the word "Schiavo" contained there-in, I searched for Klayman, Schiavo, and Babka using Ed's google search engine, which never comes up with a long list like Google does when adding your key words plus site:http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/ to your search. I should know better; I've never had adequate results using Scienblogs's search.

Ed,

The Wayback Machine preserves a good bit of your old blog. I don't know if they included MP3 files back in 2005, but it's worth a look. There are 10 pages saved in 2005, 20 in 2006, 11 in 2007, and 2 in 2008 (and a few others from earlier years.)

I just wanted to pass this link on to Ed Brayton and other readers of this blog. A sheriff in AZ is out of control:

Re Lucy

Mr. Arpaio has been out of control for a long time. One can only wonder when the feds will grow a pair and investigate him for multiple constitutional rights violations.
