Things To Do in Madison When You're Not Dead

Posted on: December 27, 2009 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Madison, Wisconsin -- already one of the coolest towns in the country -- just got a little more interesting. My buddy Skip Evans sends along the following:

Building on the success of Madison Science Pub (madsciencepub.org), the organizers of that event have launched Pub Politico, a brand new monthly event starting January 10, 2010, that will give the public the opportunity to discuss vital topics of the day with experts, legislators, and activists from across the political spectrum.

Our first Pub Politico will feature Shawn Francis Peters. He will discuss public regulation of religious behavior and the current debate in Wisconsin over state law that appears to exempt parents from criminal prosecution for the death of a child when they choose prayer and other faith practices over standard medical care.

Visit http://pubpolitico.org/ for the time and location, and to register to receive monthly announcements about upcoming Pub Politico events.

Sounds like fun. Maybe I'll even get invited to speak at one of them and we can have some fun.

Thanks much for the plug, Ed. If you have plans to be down this way in 2010 maybe we can schedule you to speak at a Pub Politico. We have events planned through March, so far, but the calendar is open beyond that.

If you're in the Madison area visit the site and register to keep informed on upcoming programs. It's going to be a terrific regular monthly event, and Brocach Irish Pub where it is held is a great place to talk politics, have some good food and beverage.

I live a few blocks away from downtown Madison and consider myself fairly well informed and I haven't heard of Madison Science Pub until reading this posting on Ed's blog. I gotta get out more... On a more serious note, was there coverage of MSP in the Isthmus or WSJ or the CapTimes?

Yeah... I hadn't heard of either of these either. Haven't seen anything in the usual places. Sounds cool, but as usual, because of my stupid schedule, I'll be working when this is going on.

I live in Madison as well and I had never heard of the Madison Science Pub until reading as well.

Note to self: Read posts before hitting enter.

(That was supposed to read, "I live in Madison. I also had never heard of the Madison Science Pub until reading this.")
