Dumbass Quote of the Day

Posted on: January 4, 2010 9:30 AM, by Ed Brayton

From Sen. Joe (Droopy Dog) Lieberman, speaking of our detention center at Guantanamo Bay:

"You could not find a better, more humane facility for a detention center in the world."

Maybe he should ask Spc. Brandon Neely, a former guard at Guantanamo Bay who revealed some appalling things that went on there.

No, but that one is set for tomorrow. I try not to have more than one dumbass quote of the day. If only all the dumbasses would cooperate.

And to think that Lieberman could have been in line for the presidency last year if the 2000 election result had fallen the other way. Roll on 2012 and the end of his inglorious legislative career.

I'm beginning to believe that Joe Lieberman truly, madly, deeply hates the shit out of all of us.

Posted by: JohnEWilliams | January 4, 2010 11:05 AM

Nah, Lieberman can't muster the conviction to actually hate people--he's just one of those opportunistic assholes who's willing to say (nay, believe) anything if he thinks it'll promote him politically.

Senaturd Liarman said:

"You could not find a better, more humane facility for a detention center in the world."?

I'm sure he meant for the guards and interrogators, not those evil islamoatheist scum.

You might add Fred Barnes' twitting -- yes, it's deliberate, I hate the thing as well as the person doing it -- his applause for Hume to tomorrow's piece.

So, (please pardon my PhysioProf) why the fuck don't we see more side-by side shots of him and the rest like him contradicting himself in split screen?

I swear, if I had a chunk of money and wanted to deep-six a politician I'd start a registered campaign organization (no "approved this message," but deal) ostensibly for the asswipe and buy time showing him arguing against his own damned platform.

In fairness to Lieberman, the ICRC have reported that conditions at Gitmo have improved considerably, particularly since Obama took office. Personally it's still pretty low on my list of places to get incarcerated. But it's not like it was in the days of Spc. Brandon Neely.

Incidently, FCI Englewood, CO is top of my list, followed by FCI Texarkana, TX and FCI Ashland, KY... Hmmm, is it bad I have that list?

D.C. Sessions - there is a convenient discussion going on in another thread that addresses this, i.e. that the vast majority of anyone in the media does not have their head screwed on.

I don't think we can call Lieberman an opportunist, for the simple reason that he's too damn lazy to actually take an opportunity to do anything. All he wants to do these days is score the cheapest and easiest political points, with a minimum of risk, effort or sacrifice on his own part; and that apparently means parroting the most infantile Republican pander-points, using his current position to prevent anything from getting done, and pretending he's a brave free-thinking independent.

The word "opportunist" implies a certain degree of eagerness, flexibility and motivation, which Lieberman hasn't shown since 2000 -- if at all.

If Brit Hume gets tomorrow, better save Wednesday for Don McLeroy:

"“Remember Superman?” he asked me, as we sat sipping ice water in his dining room. “The never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way? Well, that fight is still going on. There are people out there who want to replace truth with political correctness. Instead of the American way they want multiculturalism."

My bold. From here via PZ.

Leave it to an illegal alien to set the standard for truth, justice, and the American way. I probably shouldn't have such a light-hearted response to an organized propaganda effort, but I'm used to those. I can't even look at the science forum at amazon.com, because it's been taken over by a Wedgie.

Could you translate, please? Are you calling Lieberman an illegal alien? Spc Neely?

And what is a "Wedgie"? I take it you don't mean the prank...

Ok, I just saw Don McLeroy's Superman reference to "truth, justice, and the American way.

SLC, I have reason to believe that the spammer is a mentally deranged person who was banned from PZ' blog for issuing death threats and other lunatic behavior (read here).

See this forum post (5 days ago) from another website, and judge for yourself whether or not we're dealing with the same person: http://www.skepticfriends.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12496&whichpage=1

I think it's best we ignore this person completely and let Ed delete each and every trace of him on this blog.

That's a valid point, and I wish it's something that people would point out more. Most of that stuff took place in an environment wracked by fear, and fear makes people do things they wouldn't normally do. There have been a lot of changes in Detainee policy in general since the new administration came in. At any rate, even the Bush administration treated Detainees better than the treatment they are receiving from their host nations. Not that that makes it OK, but there you have it.
