Allowing Gays to Serve = Treason

Posted on: February 10, 2010 9:09 AM, by Ed Brayton

So says Dave Welch, founder and executive director of the U.S. Pastor Council, writing in the Worldnutdaily. He actually accused Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen of committing treason by advocating that gays and lesbians be allowed to serve openly in the military.

The irresponsibility of this president and Bush holdovers Gates and Mullen is appalling, and as far as I am concerned, treasonous.

I'd say that rates pretty highly on the crazy scale. Most of the column is just him ranting about the Bible and how evil homosexuality is. But this part made me laugh:

What we now have are top military leadership who are so diluted by political correctness that we give Muslim radicals free reign, prosecute Marines and SEALs for doing their job, suppress religious expression - if it happens to be Christian - and now give destructive sexual behavior a promotion.

Psst. Dave. I don't know how to break this to you, but uh....Muslim radicals agree with you on this issue. They hate gays just as much as you do.

For those who don't like my premise - argue with God, not me. He created us and set the standard, not us "bigots" who love Him and people enough to stand on His truth

That's funny -- that's just what the Muslim radicals say too. What a coinkydink.

Oh no, Welch. "Bigot", while it may be appropriate, is much too mild. You're accusing decorated veterans of treason because you disagree with them on a political issue. I think "no-class slimeball" is much more appropriate.

I try to, but then some crazy pastor keeps butting in!

I'd try, but people would look at me strange for arguing with something that doesn't exist. Would I have better luck arguing with Zeus or Odin?

Oh please, God has hated our military ever since we allowed adulterers to serve. Until we start drumming those sinners from our ranks God will never favor us. If we don’t, and God’s going to hate us anyway, we may as well get as many warm bodies into uniforms as are willing to volunteer.

@Abby Normal: I always thought God hates our military because the uniforms use mixed fibers.

Treason consists only in levying war against the US or giving aid and comfort to its enemies. Anyone who wants to allow homosexuals to even live, much less serve in the military is clearly levying war against the United States of God America. And since homosexuals are obviously serving Satan, who is our enemy, giving them any kind of rights is giving aid and comfort to America's enemies.

What's so hard for you libturds to understand about that?

Welch has a pal in the 'undiluted' Col (ret) Art Corbett:

A small group of German officers opposed the loyalty oath to Hitler despite great political pressure. They courageously honored and respected the moral and institutional values they represented and knew to be right. We who are Marines are proud to see that our commandant has shown similar courage in the face of political pressure to allow avowed homosexuals to become Marines.
A cold chill shivers down the spines of men when they contemplate the physical acts of homosexual behavior. It is important the American people know that their Marines, and our commandant, have spine enough to notice and oppose this folly. I hope they will honor the many generations of Marines who sacrificed for American freedom and will remember to vote for and support those who will work to "keep our honor clean."

The colonel seems a bit preoccupied with spines. His must not be all that sturdy if it buckles under a chill.

I generally have better luck with Zeus. He's easier to confuse.

Dr X - but does Col (ret) Art Corbett's spine come with 'Orange Crush'? -Dingo

"...down the spine..." "...have spine enough...", when seriously "contemplating" homosex?
Does one's spine also stiffen with manly outrage, Colonel Art Raging Homophobe?

Speak for yourself, bub.

I'll take "Unintentional Homo-eroticism" for $100, Alex.

Does Mr. Welch realize that gays have been in the US military since its inception, and somehow it has still miraculously held together? Or does the dim cavern of his own dim mind not permit such realities to shine in?

"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." How do you figure inintentional homo-eroticism?
I wouldn't be suprised if Col. Corbett held his press conference in a closet. :) - Dingo

It would be a big closet, roomy enough to store Nazi costumes and BD paraphernalia.

From the article:

Historian David Barton...

Later, he pulls Romans1, which came as a complete shock to me, as people never quote Romans to baptize their bigotry. If I ever hear another person using scripture to justify treating their fellow man like shit, my head will explode, from the riddled enigma alone.

Dr. X, #7:

Why do I get the feeling that these anti-gay bigots, had they been serving in the German army in the '30s and '40s, would have done their "duty" and served faithfully under Hitler?

For those who don't like my premise - argue with God, not me.

First he takes ownership of his stance ("my premise"), and then he disavows it. I guess Christians aren't as strong in their faith as they think.

Somewhere I saw a poster that said: If the Bible is God's word, why is it always people doing the talking?

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort."

Oh, yeah, because there's never been a gay Marine before (excuse me while I pause to laugh hysterically).

From my completely unscientific sample, I can tell you that the rate of military service among my gay friends is way higher than among my straight friends. And I can tell you that the most common branch of service among the gays is most definitely the Marines. As a straight Navy veteran friend of mine told me - "You know why they have Marines on ship? Because sheep make noise."

To CPT_Doom @31:

This may sound like a stereotype, but: A gay guy I know told me that of the four service, gay guys like to join the Marines the best because "they have the best uniforms."

I'll bet his version of a 'man' also gets tingles in his skin and a dry mouth.

Also note that he says 'homosexual behavior' not 'homosexual's behavior'. Because we all know that discharging a rifle is certainly not a 'physical act of a homosexual's behaviour' - it never could be.

Also because homophobes within the religious right pretty much deny the existence of homosexual persons. There may speak of homosexual behaviour, or the homosexual agenda, or "unwanted homosexual feelings" but they studious avoid referring to people as homosexual. It's a conscious part of their message discipline.

This is how you end up with people like Ted Haggard.

I would submit that denying able-bodied men the right to serve in an overstretched army would be the real treason here >=( What a jackass.

Why does Dave Welch get so worked up about gay sex? How can it be threatening to him unless it somehow directly affects his life? A battle against his own nature, perhaps? He and his buddies should just try it once to get over their fear of it.

There are many flavors of gay sex to choose from, Mr. Welch. Have fun, get tested first before you try it, and use condoms of course—who knows what kind of diseases you and your buddies have.
