Poker Tournament Robbed On Camera

Posted on: March 13, 2010 9:16 AM, by Ed Brayton

Here are some criminals with serious chutzpah. A European Poker Tour event in Berlin was robbed by six armed men -- with cameras rolling for television. I don't know whether they got away with the prize money from the tournament, but I would think it's pretty unlikely that they did. Here's video of it all starting:

If this had happened in Texas, I'm sure that the authorities would hold 'em.

You know, it's a game: They had the money but lost quite some again. You will find more details at http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,682552,00.html

So far, the robbers have not been found by the police. They had a suspect, but they let him go again. They might still get away.

I love the idea of Abbie/ERV smacking Nisbet upside the head with a chair. I'd pay cold hard cash to see that.

But how could this happen? Germany has pretty strict gun laws. Don't these criminals realize they are violating those laws?

Let's try this on for size:

"But how could this happen? Germany has pretty strict laws against theft and robbery. Don't these criminals realize they are violating those laws?"

Do you hear how dumb that sounds? It sounds equally dumb when the way you said it. I was exposed to lead paint as a child and I easily got how idiotic you came across.

History Punk,

The problem is your equating theft (or any actual crime against another) with something that while illegal (or simply regulated to death like firearms in Germany) isn't inherently harmful to someone else.

Owning a firearm, unlike theft, isn't in itself harmful to others.

Otherwise honest law abiding citizens might wish to own firearms, they would not wish to steal.

Creating laws against firearms only serve to keep honest law abiding citizens unarmed.

If your intent is to stop the use of firearms by criminals, making it difficult or impossible for honest citizens to own them won't work.

I was exposed to lead paint as a child and I easily got how idiotic you came across.

I won't touch that, it wouldn't be cricket.

From what I gather "armed" equates to a handgun and a machete. Also, despite having a gun, it appears that security tackled the robbers and fist fights ensued.

So, to egg on the firearm legality distraction that is inevitable in this topic, how many chickenshits with a firearm would be daring enough to tackle and wrestle an individual armed with either a pistol or a knife? Moral of the story: any chickenshit can pull a trigger, real men use their fists.
