GOP Mainstreaming the Crazy, Take 2

Juan Cole reports that one of the candidates for the chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. John Shimkus of Illinois, has a batshit crazy reason not to believe in global warming: Because God will decide when the earth will end, and he promised that he wouldn’t destroy the world with bad weather again after Noah’s flood.     Some ecologists claimed in a controversial paper that by 2050 (that’s only 40 freaking years) up to 35% of terrestrial species will be “committed to extinction”.

    Which leads this rich lunkhead who lives an extravagant lifestyle and works in a highly carbon emitting industry to do a linear extrapolation (70% of all species will be extinct by 2100) and calls for anyone who denies this to be jailed.
