So says the maniacally anti-gay Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association:
A military that is weakened spiritually is a military that is a weakened fighting force. The ancient Scriptures still have it right: “Unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchmen stand guard in vain” (Psalm 127:1). The Founders understood this; our current crop of Pentagon leaders do not, and seem intent on making what will prove to be a fatal mistake. There is no quicker way to assign the United States to the scrap heap of history than to normalize homosexual behavior in our military.
As usual, right wing bigots are totally oblivious to irony. Whenever they claim that God is going to destroy us if we don’t follow the Biblical law — and they do this often — they always quote the Old Testament warnings to Israel. The ancient Israelites who wrote the Bible were forever interpreting everything good and bad that happened as being determined by God. If they had a good crop or were victorious in a battle, that meant God was pleased with them. If they lost a battle, God was angry with them because they had done something wrong — like allowing a woman who was not a virgin on her wedding day to live.
All the more ironic, then, to point out that Israel allows gays to serve openly in the military. Surely if the Biblical warnings to Israel to follow God’s law or be destroyed apply, they must apply to Israel. Yet that nation still exists.
Also, what exactly is the difference between Fischer’s argument and the one made by Fred Phelps and his gang of ghouls? They make the very same argument, that God will destroy America for being too gay-friendly, and they cite the exact same verses.
