Dispatches from the Creation Wars

David McAfee, a longtime atheist activist I have not met, describes how he was rejected by the UC Santa Barbara grad program in religious studies because he’s an atheist. This may well be illegal, since UCSB is a public university and the anti-discrimination laws cover religion, but I’m not exactly up on any possible precedents.

I’d be curious to hear how others feel about this, especially my friend Gretchen, an atheist herself who has a PhD in religious studies.
