Dispatches from the Creation Wars

Michael Grunwald thinks so: If Huntsman or Romney wins the nomination, and then Obama wins the election, the GOP will quickly shift from “loosely tethered to reality” to “out of its freaking mind.” Remember, after its crushing defeat in 2008, the party faithful concluded that John McCain lost the election because he wasn’t conservative enough–and…

Rich Lowry of the National Review says none of the current Republican contenders blows his skirt up: With Governor Daniels deciding over the weekend not to run, it is slowly dawning on the Republican mind that the party’s choice may effectively come down to Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty. This prospect produces a range of…

Kudos to Lisa Lampanelli

Here’s a very cool story: The Westboro Baptist Church may have met its match in Lisa Lampanelli, longtime supporter of gay rights and Comedy’s “lovable Queen of Mean.” Lampanelli recently told TMZ she would donate $1,000 to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis organization for every Westboro Baptist Church member that showed up to protest her…

This Event is a Must (Not) See

Here’s an event that makes me wish the rapture had happened. The Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network is delighted to announce that John Stamos will be joining The Beach Boys for the second annual Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Concert in Kettering, Ohio (near Dayton), Sunday, June 12th. I’d rather be stripped naked, covered…

After the Rapture

Here’s an interesting and amusing Youtube video imagining what the world would have been like if all the fundamentalist Christians had been raptured when Camping said they would be. Not entirely realistic, of course, but still amusing.

While GOP insiders think the presidential field is pretty well set, here’s one possible wildcard: Rep. Thad McCotter of Michigan is considering a quixotic jump into the race. McCotter is very, very conservative. He’s also mildly crazy. Not Michelle Bachmann crazy, exactly. There’s a real eloquence about him. He’s given to Shakespearean language in his…

The Minnesota legislature may have voted to put a referendum on the ballot to ban same-sex marriage, but at least one conservative Republican there, Rep. John Kriesel, a wounded veteran, took a bold stand against his own party and in favor of equality. He talks about how, when he’s asked by his grandkids what he…

Texans Stand Up for Gay Family

On a TV show called “What Would You Do?” they had a family led by two lesbians go into a diner in Texas, where a waitress criticized them. And the folks in the diner stood up and defended the family and told the waitress she was wrong. Very cool.

Right Wing Watch points out that if there’s anything scarier than Bryan Fischer, it’s the unbelievable morons who call in to his show. Listen to this Rhodes scholar waxing stupid about how the NAACP and the ACLU are “dragging down” the eagle and keeping it from flying.

It’s a wiki-based website that will provide incredibly detailed information throughout the 2012 election, beginning of course with the Iowa caucuses. Our wonderful editor in Iowa, Lynda Waddington, has been working very hard on…
