New York Will Now Be Destroyed

Posted on: June 25, 2011 9:03 AM, by Ed Brayton

Now that the state of New York has democratically legalized same-sex marriage, we should soon see people marrying multiple underaged goats and box turtles. Oh, and God is going to destroy New York now too. Or so that's what the drooling morons at Free Republic would have us believe. One of the very first comments shows you all you need to know about such people:

Memo to NY: since you've decided to officially become a degenerate fag state, don't expect any help or sympathy from me the next time you have a 9/11. Burn in hell, New York.

Awww. How Jesus-like of you! A few more for your enjoyment:

All I can say to New Yorkers, is if you believe the Bible is the word of god, and if you believe god destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality and more importantly societies acceptance of homosexuality, and you believe God is the same today as he was back then, You might want to consider a move south in the not to distant future. If not...feel free to carry on....

...but keep your faggedy blue-state asses and attitudes out of Virginia. We don`t want your kind here.

Brilliant!

So I suppose our only hope is that a single conservative judge will throw this out, like that rump-ranger in California did?

Very nice. On what grounds could it possibly be thrown out? Allowing gay people to marry doesn't violate anyone's rights, obviously. And I'm still trying to figure out what the hell this comment means:

Just as with abortion this perversion will cover every state in no time.

Remarkable that few see these two as simply sexual decisions people are making...they are not rights issues as they are deceptively presented as.

They are choices/decisions people make concerning when, and with whom, and how they conduct themselves sexually.....nothing more.

But the homosexuals, and woman who want to be sexually promiscuous, would have us all focus on the "consequences" or 'results' of their choices. Blaming the majority, blaming our laws rather than taking responsibility for their actions and behaviors. Thus the society in general, we the public, becomes their problem rather than they themselves.

And then there's this:

Can we try the secession thing again?

Please do. And don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Now that the state of New York has democratically legalized same-sex marriage, we should soon see people marrying multiple underaged goats and box turtles.

Actually, what we should be seeing is a surprisingly quick rejection of the whole "states rights" and "will of the people" arguments that these people have been using against gay marriage.

So I suppose our only hope is that a single conservative judge will throw this out...

What? Already?

...like that rump-ranger in California did?

Stay classy, guys.

I think what people are missing here is that New York has already been punished by God for this degeneracy. Just as God has terrible aim with respect to space, he has a terrible aim with respect to time. 9/11 WAS God's punishment--he was just off a few years. When you think about, it's a rather understandable mistake for an eternal being to make.

Freeper: Memo to NY: since you've decided to officially become a degenerate fag state, don't expect any help or sympathy from me the next time you have a 9/11. Burn in hell, New York.

What is is about gay marriage that generates such insane vitriol? New York could have passed a law explicitly setting up death panels to kill everyone over 65 and I doubt the comments would be this insane!

I live in NY State and I'm happy about this vote and I have written to my State Senator to thank him for his vote.

"..the next time you have a 9/11.." So, must I assume that this writer does not live in the United States? If so, why should s/he care how New York votes?

On what grounds could it possibly be thrown out?

There is some concern that the wording of the religious exemptions are vague enough that they may lead to discriminatory policies or actions by the religious. That could lead to a judicial decision that the exemptions are unconstitutional. Because of a clause, if the exemptions are struck down so is the law.

I've read the exemptions and although IANAL, it seems like there is wiggle room to legally discriminate in housing and employment if an organization is a non-profit or even supervised by a persons with religious convictions. I've heard varying opinions so i hope I'm wrong.

Burn in hell, New York.

As a most reluctant resident of the diaper pail on the Hudson, I wish to remind the writer that every summer, we do burn in hell. Furthermore, every winter, hell freezes over. Such is life in hell.

Regarding this:

But the homosexuals, and woman who want to be sexually promiscuous, would have us all focus on the "consequences" or 'results' of their choices. Blaming the majority, blaming our laws rather than taking responsibility for their actions and behaviors.

I think it is mumbo-jumbo from a person who heard a lot of verbiage about "personal accountability", has come to believe that every liberal policy must be against it, and is trying to apply it as a magic term to a situation in which he/she is basically told he/she is supposed to be indignant, but doesn't really understand the reason.

“All I can say to New Yorkers, is if you believe the Bible is the word of god, and if you believe god destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality and more importantly societies acceptance of homosexuality, and you believe God is the same today as he was back then”

then we would all be eating kosher and observing God’s Sabbath instead of the pope’s Lord’s Day. And be a lot more charitable to the poor. Oh well, pass the bacon.

Owen, that's awesome!

I'm also confused by this. "I blame the majority and the law that I'm attracted to this woman, so I'm going to marry her! That'll show you!" "Damn my unclosable legs! It's your fault, society! ABORTION!"

What gets me is how inconceivable it is to these people that two people of the same sex could possibly love each other, how homosexuality is nothing more than a sex act.
The last wedding I went to was two women, and the love for each other was wonderfully evident on their faces. How anyone could deny people that sort of happiness when it doesn't affect them personally is sickening and sad.

I was going to react to the freeper comments, but you know what?

It's a great day for New York.

It is somewhat interesting that Republicans from a long time bastion of the extinct to endangered traditional Republican party, upstate New York, made the crucial votes. I wonder if there could someday be some backlash against the Tea Party/religious right domination of the party.

Please do. And don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out

Does anyone here but me actually agree with this?

There were theocratic authoritarian nuts who were trying to take over SC and get it to secede a few years ago. I supported that, but it died out.

If any of these Freep guys want to secede, I'd be interested in reaching across the aisle and making common cause with them on that issue.

I see their dilemma. There's not exactly a Protestant Fundamentalist theocracy they can move to. Uganda has a lot of what they want (also no social programs and so on), but it has a lot of Catholics, and more to the point, the people there are mainly black. Muslim theocracies are Muslim. Where are these guys going to go?

Texas is hardly a good secession target - it's loaded with minorities, immigrants, gays, big corrupt cities, fancy secular universities, and the like. The theocrats have power there, but no matter how f'ed up Texas looks to the rest of us, it's kind of a microcosm of the whole country in some ways.

But what about some counties in Texas? All white counties in other parts of the Former Confederacy? Idaho or parts of Idaho?

I think this secession idea is plausible, and I want to make it clear that I am dead serious and will support anyone from either side of the gay marriage issue. This could be the solution to a dilemma.

"...And then there's this:

aw, c'mon. don't be like that. there's decent, well educated, socially liberal folks here in the south.

Oh really?

Missouri and Alabama were recently hit by powerful tornadoes that killed hundreds. At the same time the Mississippi flooded all the way down to Louisiana. This was because two guys held hands in San Francisco. The deity has notoriously bad aim and being a few thousand miles off is normal.

In fact, right now the Sky Fairy is punishing NY state. There are major floods in North Dakota with tens of thousands of refugees in Minot and surrounding areas. There are also major floods from the Missouri river in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. For an omniscient deity, the xian god isn't very good at reading maps.

NY legalization of gay marriage really makes me sad. Every year I'd spend a weekend in the Catskills for a race and it is such a nice change from the post apocalypse hell hole that Connecticut has become - think Mad Max but with Camerys and Accords - since we legalized gay marriage. Truth be told legal same sex marriage is about big a change to society as a minor change to the traffic code. A few couples I know now use the words husband or wife instead of partner that's it.

re: secession

I have mixed feelings about it. A part of me wants to say that a big chunk of living in a democracy is learning to live with others.

But dang it, if South Carolina can't live with us, then another part of me says, "OK, go ahead. That's a chunk of federal money you will no longer get."

Also, what would be the travel situation? Would we allow passportless or visa-free travel from there?

Be interesting to see the exodus of the black population as well, something tells me their previous experience with secession might convince them to go elsewhere.

And what of the US military bases and facilities there?

It's kind of an interesting question, if unrealistic.

I know this isn't the point but it really bothers me when fundamentalists condemn people with the Bible when they clearly don't know what's in the Bible.

Ezekiel 14:49, 50 -- Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; They did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Yes, but they were also gay. That's why they raped the daughter and handmaiden. Because there's nothing homorapists love more than pussy.

the post apocalypse hell hole that Connecticut has become

Is this a joke, or are over-privileged, narcissistic, unjustifiably-entitled-feeling, constantly whining wingnuts so unbelievably hot-house-sheltered, delusional and permanently wretched that they really think that CT is a "post apocalyptic hell hole"? Not because you're oppressed, of course, but because you don't get to oppress other people as much as you'd like to.

Now that they are obsolete, gays can enjoy their freedom.

This idiocy reminds me of a dinner party I went to in 2010. In attendance were my older relatives who (how we got on this topic, I'm not sure) are against gay marriage, immigration, and anything else perceived as "leftist". My aunt insisted that were "gays" allowed to be married, "that would be the end of it, everything would be ruined" (or something to that effect - I'm paraphrasing). My father noted, "they have been allowed to marry, since 2003." She fell silent. Oh, Alberta.

#46 I live in New York; my answering machine shows that the National Organization for Marriage (nom nom nom) called me three times in the last two days with a "survey".

They've been calling me for several weeks, warning that this is the most important question of our time (you know, not like unemployment, or the huge numbers of dead due to unwarranted warmongering, or...), and asking whether or not I agree that marriage should be between one man and one woman. Each time, I answered with a resounding NO! (occasionally a HELL NO!), at which point the machine thanked me for my time, and hung up. I was tempted to answer 'yes', just to see what transpired, but I simply couldn't bring myself to do it.

In any case, their tactic backfired, at least in my case, since each time they called, I in turn called my local state senator (Steven Saland - one of the key Republican votes), urging him to vote in support of the legislation (which, much to my surprise, he did). Good for him!

What gets me, is that the next time Fred Phelps decides to picket a soldier's funeral, these same people will be condemning them on another thread. The only difference between some of those posters (some, not all) is that Phelps thinks this country had passed the point of no return long ago, while those freepers think we are rapidly approaching it. At what point do they think we will have passed that threshold? Because according to their own rhetoric, at that point they should join Fred Phelps, but they never will.

But dang it, if South Carolina can't live with us, then another part of me says, "OK, go ahead. That's a chunk of federal money you will no longer get."

Not to mention that a country with a terrifying nuclear arsenal would suddenly have several million fewer enfranchised lunatics.

Honestly, go for it.

Modus Operendi -

harold, it's a joke.

Turns out it was. I learned that from the person to whom I directed the question, however.

It's an example of Poe's law. The original comment attempted to satire or parody right wing extremism, because in the commenter's mind, it is obvious that CT is not a post-apocalyptic hell hole.

However, the satire is, in fact, not easily distinguishable from the illustrated freeper ravings (which are characteristic of may thousands of such comments on freep every day).

Take your medication.

I strongly stand by my observation that there are many -

"over-privileged, narcissistic, unjustifiably-entitled-feeling, constantly whining wingnuts"

Who are -

"unbelievably hot-house-sheltered, delusional and permanently wretched".

People who are not wingnuts may sometimes have these characteristics as well, of course.

If you have some reason for not liking those observations, that's your issue.

I generally try to be persuasive and non-insulting, but there is a level of bigotry and hypocrisy which deserves strong language.

Harold, I see a grumpygus who needs a hug

You are correct. Freepers make me grumpy. (Among other things.)

Now, if you want a place that turned in to a hell hole after gay marriage, try Canada.

It's true, since same sex marriage passed, our houses have continued to increase in value, people have jobs and our dollar is worth more than the US dollar.

Maybe we should ban redneck marriage instead.
