Evidence? Here.
Any exculpatory evidence? You bet.
That's all I got.
(except a h/t to the back chan, er, that thingum to which we must not refer. and Ack. and since we embrace the diversity, this. I'm out.)
Update 3/6/08: evolgen brings the snark, razib brings the data, Greg Laden discovers his whiteness.

Updated 3/11/08: Apparently Alice is under the impression that this post was making fun of racial diversity issues. It was......sort of. It is true that I think bringing the funneeez can help in grappling with SeriousTopics. If we get too serious we have a chance of ending up with a totally perplexing message like this one.

Who's gonna inform Razib of Gene Expression that he's white?
Oh BTW, ScienceBorgTM is sexist too---at first glance looks like less than 20 women to over 40 men.
Not to mention incestuous, what with all that intra-linking you guys do.
That should be sufficient gasoline on those fires for now...

You missed this part..
so apparently if you hold a cat in front of your face you look white. who knew?

Yet, you don't refute the charge (no matter how obnoxiously it was made).

idk i don't really like seeing people's pictures
i'm afraid they'll influence my view of the blogs
and sometimes they are too pretty (looking at you, Ms. Batts)
so that I can't really focus on the blog
that's pretty disturbing
except for razib's picture
i like that one a lot
even though it's very cute
but not people-cute
kittie-cute
everyone should just have a cute animal as an avatar

Ha! My friend I just got here, first of all, and in any case we peon bloggers have essentially nothing to do with who gets assimilated.
Second, it is no secret that minorities of most stripes are seriously underrepresented in science. Bloggers are even more pointedly underrepresented in the pool of scientists. (Hard to categorize the "pool" from which the non-working-scientist SBers are drawn, so let's not even go there). It takes no genius to see that even if minority scientists were more likely to blog that this pool would be pretty dang small.
Or you can just blame it all on Jim Watson! Your call.

Well, it's more on Seed than the individual bloggers, if there's any merit at all...
Or it could be non-whites are being socialized out of this...
Or....

I dunno -- every stop of my career has been a lot stripier than that pasty-faced bunch. I haven't such such a uniformly white group of people since the demolition derby at the state fair!
Nature Networks, incidentally, manages to attract a cast of bloggers who look a lot more like the people I work with. Of course, they tend to focus more on research and less on ranting about how much they hate religious people.

I didn't mean to come off quite so snarky. Sorry!
What I meant to say is that even though the page you point to is juvenile and obnoxious, that person does raise issues worth discussing.
I tend to agree that the problem is more one of general under-representation in the sciences as a whole. For example, the campus I work at has a couple hundred scientists and grad students. Of the Americans on campus probably five percent or less are non-white.

hm. i think that depends on the science.

Nah, we don't get any traffic by putting it on googlepages.

...Greg Laden discovers his whiteness.
Boy, a nerve really got touched over there, huh?
Perhaps someone can time travel back to 1996 and inform him that a) domain names don't cost $70, b) Googlepages is a free hosting service akin to the Angelfire or Tripod of his day, and c) Google is unlikely to be significantly inconvenienced by his malicious bandwidth sucking.
