AP calls it for Obama!

Category: General Politics
Posted on: June 3, 2008 3:02 PM, by DrugMonkey

The AP is reporting that Barack Obama has clinched enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination.

Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday after a grueling marathon, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.

It is a great day for our country and our world.

And now the LA Times is breaking news that Hillary is "open" to the veep slot. Gee, really? Never would'a guessed that...

You know, as opposed as I am to Hillary against Obama for the President spot, now that its over the veep slot is sounding like a better and better spot for her. Imagine how effective she can be in the attack mode that VP candidates tend to play on the general campaign trail. Moreover, I find it hard to believe that the Rethuglicans can come up with a VP candidate that will stand a chance of not getting completely shredded by her in the veep debates.

What? You aren't impressed with designated Tan Guy Bobby Jindal? He, like, runs Louisiana and stuff...

Actually, taking Sen. Clinton as VP puts a LOT of pressure on the McCain's choice for VP. He's gotta find a black woman Republican to get back in the game at that point, doesn't he? Watch for some Condi rehabilitation....

I got all weepy and mushy when I saw the subhead that this was the first black candidate of a major party. I mean, I knew that and all, but still, it's incredible to see it in print.

I think she'd be a great candidate/campaigner for veep but I don't want her baggage in the white house. It'd be cool if Obama picked another woman (Sebelius? Napolitano?) though of course hard not to see it as a bit of a slap at Clinton (any woman BUT you). So I vote Richardson, for the black/Latino/nice guy ballot. Hopefully Bill can bowl.

So I vote Richardson

not for me. When he came up in the Clinton administration I happened to have a colleague who was personally familiar with him in his public role. Suffice it to say that when nattering pops up about a little problem with the ladeeez I am more inclined to believe than not. Certainly enough to suggest he's not worth the risk, if an alternate VP can be found who does not have such problems waiting to erupt. At this point, it isn't about being fair or determining if he's just gregarious, it is about minimizing the chance for scandal/dirt/traction that would blow the election...

Yeah, because the bimbo eruptions really held back Mr. Clinton....Ok, eventually, but by then he was in his second term.
