Redoubt continues its holding pattern

A week ago, if you asked around, I’m sure most people would have thought Redoubt would have erupted by now considering all the seismicity and melting that was seen at the end of last week. However, volcanology is not an exact science, and here we are continuing to watch Redoubt tease us with signs of pending activity. New holes have appeared in the snow that caps the volcano, the seismicity continues and the volcano is still spewing sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide – all signs that magma is intruding the volcanic edifice. However, as on this morning (2/5/2009), the volcano has yet to erupt.

Some news from earlier in the week is that the US Air Force has moved many of its aircraft from the area of Redoubt to Washington state, apparently not wanting to play the waiting game like it did during the 1991 eruption of Pinatubo near Clark Air Base. Also, an eruption of Redoubt might also have a larger effect on air cargo rather than air passenger traffic, with one of the largest air cargo hubs located in Anchorage.

UPDATE 9:20 AM 2/5/2009: Read into it as you will, but Redoubt’s activity is in “slight decline” according to AVO.

    I had an issue with the flash on first camera I ordered, but as soon as I takled to Amazon customer service, they had another one to me in the mail the following day and I haven’t had a single problem! It takes great pictures, even when you have to zoom. I have had problems in the apst with other cameras where the flash somewhat whites out people’s faces, but this flash works very well. Picture quality is very high! I love the camera and all its features!!!

    I’d be tempted to try the squishy foam thing – memory foam, whatever it is called. They do cost a lot of money but have a 30 day return with them. How can you tell in one visit to the store if you like a mattress or not? As far a the doctor goes, that is a standard answer for some doctors. I’ve worked for many over the years. If it hurts – don’t do it. If it helps than it must be a good thing.

    This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Using perhaps the most gratuitously odious and heavy-handed way of getting the message across [a sentiment echoed here], he no doubt grabbed attention and pleased the crowd but the mechanism through which he achieved this can hardly be considered to be a great example of the director’s craft as it is defined by the “Oscar and Cannes” aesthetic. That in a nutshell is the difference between Ray’s depiction of poverty and Boyle’s—it’s not the depiction of extreme poverty that makes Slumdog ordinary but the way Boyles chooses to do so that is.

    Congrats on the great run. I also had a tough week leading up to today but rocked todays 16 miles up and down Kelly Drive/West River Drive my first time there. Im not a fan of jumping in the car an hour before an early run, but I wanted to hit that course before the PDR in 2 weeks. Youre right, there were fuel belts EVERYWHERE. Ive never seen that many in one place. But anyway, what an incredibly beautiful morning for a run!! If I run there again, Ill keep an eye out for you and offer you a random high-five!
