Dome grows, waiting continues at Redoubt

Fairly quiet weekend (except for the start of the College World Series regionals … I do have a favored team*), volcanically speaking, but the ever-vigilant folks up in Alaska are keeping an eye on Redoubt as the eruption of 2009 continues.

The weekly status (released 5/29) for Redoubt released by AVO has no big surprises, reporting that “small discrete earthquakes and rockfall signals in the summit region have been recorded steadily over the course of the past week. In other words, the dome continues to extrude and part of it roll down the volcano. The lava dome is still growing (lots of impressive images on the AVO website), mostly extending slowly down the steep north slope of the volcano (see image below). There is still the strong possibly that the dome will catastrophically collapse causing a pyroclastic flow and potentially a plinian eruption to follow as the pressure is released, but so far, nothing of the sort has occurred. However, the dome is unstable (says Allison Payne of AVO), so a collapse might happen at any moment. Until then, most Alaskans just hope that Redoubt behaves itself during the lucrative tourist season in the state after the lost revenue from the Cook Inlet oil production.

    I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?

    Most people live near coasts. My plan is to build whole towns (but perhaps starting with just novelty tourist shops and cafes) on floating pontoons with some sort of hydraulic pistons fixed to both the pontoon and the sea or river bed. As the tide rises and falls (a distance of around two metres where I live) a constant flow of high pressure water would be forced through a turbine to supply power to the buildings on the pontoon.I believe such things have been tried before and it turns out to be extremely difficult to build sufficiently robust hardware. But still, it should work in theory. I think.

    My main NYR is to not keep soda in the house. I like drinking water, but if I have soft drinks around then I am much more likely to grab one so I will just try not to keep it in the house in 2011.

    This brand of a national health care bill never really had the support of any majority except for those in the majority party and a few RINOs in the congress, it was a farce and was an attempt to force down the throats of the public but it wound up sticking in the craw of those who saw thru it and may very well be shoved up the rectum of those who created it, lets hope so. In the mean time while this battle was fought the devious parasites of the left in the congress have managed to distract and hide the enactment of other useless ruinous bills, we now need to turn our attention to this matter.

    Article submission is an extremely powerful process and too be honest I am not sure wether i agree with doing it automatically. My current SEO stratergys for article marketing are fairly simple. I outsouce an article to be written by a professional english writer, the article must contain at least 1,200 words and be of extremely high quality. Next i will submit it to the top 20 article websites based on Page Rank and traffic. After submitting the articles i will then do some basic backlinking and bookmarking to make sure they get indexed by the search engine spiders. I find that doing article marketing this way works extremely effective however i suppose that having the software submit less quality articles to the less dominant websites and then submit to the ones manually that you can’t use a tool for with your quality article because at the end of the day quality backlinks never hurt anyone.
