Well, I wasnt planning on moving into SciBlogs until after this semester of classes was over (sometime next week), but it appears that the old ERV at Blogger has been deleted.
So while Im jumping through hoops in an attempt to get my old posts back, I figured I might as well move into ERV at SciBlogs!
Yes, yes, I was an idiot and didnt save all of my posts at Blogger. I didnt expect to wake up one day and Google to be gone. And since Blogger is run by Google, and I have a Gmail account, also run by Google, I figured 'Hey, if anything is ever wrong with ERV at Blogger, surely they will email me about it!' hehehehe.
Ah well, living with a pit bull for the past year and a half has taught me not to become attached to possessions:

Even if I cant get all my old posts back, if they were good thoughts, Ill have them again (I did save all of the comments, so your alls thoughts are safe, LOL!)
I'm a graduate student studying the molecular and biochemical evolution of HIV within patients and within populations. I also study epigenetic control of ERVs.

At least you're in good company here. Hope you manage to restore your old content and move it over. Good luck!

Good to see you sorted out. We're all off to update our feeds.

Hey Erv!
Your blog was too good for google anyways. It's my suspicion that the old Erv was a victim of the IDiot establishment. And if true - you're really getting to them!
Best Wishes

WOOT! Congrats. It's about time you were assimilated into the Seed mindhive.

Hi Abbie.
I know this is going to be repeated too many times, but I am relieved that your blog has not disappeared. So, who tried to kill your old spot?
Posted by: Janine ID | April 28, 2008 12:31 PM
Good luck on getting the archives moved over, and welcome to your new internet home.

Hi ERV,
Good to see you at SciBlogs where you belong! So, what the heck happened with Blogger? You seem to be completely deleted from Google searches too -- which makes it seem like something other than a random glitch (to my uninformed eyes).
Posted by: Physicalist | April 28, 2008 12:36 PM
Long time lurker. Good to see this new site. Loads better than the last.
All the best.

You must have done something right.

Abbie,
I don't know if you remember, but a few weeks back you left a comment over on PZ's blog that motivated me to download all your posts and archive them here.
Welcome to your new home!

Just pretend all that stuffing is all that remains of Ben Stein's fuzzy brain. I guarantee you'll feel better fast! Just don't tell Arnie. He may get the idea and start trying to "cheer you up" more often. :-P

Hey! I want everyone to drift to the left!
Congratulations on the move, and I'm betting Dembski's Bottle Of Single-Malt you will be a top blog before Dembski gets a new sweater.
ps: For all NEW ERV readers, hope that Abbie still has her blog posts where she totally made Dembski and Behe cry like little girls.

This constant drifting on the right is very weird. Is it the result of voluntary intelligent design or casual random chance? (aka a bug)
Posted by: baley | April 28, 2008 1:37 PM

I love how all of you are absolutely certain that some "right wing Christian fanatic" got the original blog deleted. Proof? Who needs it!
Posted by: Jason | April 28, 2008 1:39 PM
So glad to see you back up and running. Especially as on Thursday I had linked your blog to a local radio host who was pondering interviewing Ben Stein. I suggested if he interview that IDIOT, then he should bookend the interview with interviews with you and PZ, or even Larry Morgan.
Let us know why your blog was deleted, and who caused it when you find out; I'm sure everyone who reads your blog can't wait to hear the story.
Posted by: gingerbeard | April 28, 2008 1:40 PM
What is this dreft to teh lift of which you speek? Looks OK to me, on Firefox 2.0.0.14 in Kubuntu 7.10 (yes I know 8.04 is out, d/l'd yesterday on torrent, but not installed yet). Only issue is, as usual, that long URLs are long. So?
Maybe U R doin it rong, as in IExploder? Just a t'ought.

Not as familiar with this ERV blogger as the rest of you, but I follow Panda and Pharny..
I just want to know whether I need to boycott everything associated with the service that has blacklisted this writer. Details as you find out please. Creeping totalitarianism.
Enjoy.

Yay! Although I am sorry it took the loss of your blogger site to have to start at Sciblogs early, I am very happy because I can now read you at work on my breaks(my IT dept blocks Blogger sites too...)
Welcome.

"Old ERV readers"? Who are you calling old? You don't have to be so puerile and jut-jawed.
Really, great to see you in your new neighborhood.
Posted by: Wicked Lad | April 28, 2008 2:19 PM
So any idea what happened to the old blog? I know there's been speculation, but does anyone actually know?
Posted by: Jake | April 28, 2008 2:21 PM
Check out the brightly glowing eyes on that pit bull. Clearly it is possessed. God is punishing you for your atheism. (If you don't understand why God would cause your innocent dog to become a slave of Satan in order to punish you, please re-read the story of David and Bethsheba, in II Samuel 11. )
Posted by: llewelly | April 28, 2008 2:37 PM
Cool. Not the greatest surprise that you made this move, but still it's great to see you here.
Congratulations Abbie.

Matt Cutts at Google probably either knows or can find out why ERV was cut from Blogger.

Scienceblogs: borging all the best science blogs one at a time..

I'm new to your blog and I sure can't wait to read what everyone loved of your deleted blog. :) (You make a good example of why you shouldn't trust too much free open blog hosting services like that.)
PS: that dog's a darling. Gotta love pit bulls. (Such a shame they are so heavily discriminated against by paranoid lawmakers.)
Posted by: Michelle | April 28, 2008 2:51 PM
Welcome "back," Abbie!
It really skeered me last night, to find your old blog "removed" by Google! (In fact, you mentioned that the first you knew about it yourself was my email to you.)
The new place is more sciency, and probably will be more resistant to what I suspect (with no evidence yet) was a Creo false complaint of some kind to get you deleted from Google Blogger. Now you're like totally a PEER of PZ!

And I don't even mind the dearth of apostrophes.

Nice pic of Ah-nold chewing up stuff (your entire bed? his entire bed? several unluckly Care Bears? Dembski brand cardigans? the stuffing from Premise Media's strawmen?).
Glad you're not attached to possessions per your pix caption above.
Hmm...
Imagine no possessions
Its (it's?) easy if you try
Oops.. didn't someone else do this sort of copyright infringement recently? What was the name Expunged? Excruciating? Excremental? Emunction? Ex post facto? Something like that. Some guy named Swine or something hosted it I think.
Now if only a new ScienceBlogger were good at detecting (TM) this sort of plagiarism.
I just can't think of who is that good at it, nope :)
(as I said in your "new readers" post, good to see you alive and blogging; the DI gets no rest..)

LOL...such behavior is not limited to pit bulls, by any means. Katie our beloved-but-dumb-as-a-log lab mix did that to the interior of our car when we left her there for about a half hour one evening while we were in the store...

Welcome back Abbie !!
Had a WTF moment there yesterday for a little while.....
Looks more professional here too !!
Posted by: clinteas | April 28, 2008 7:03 PM
Sorry Abbie. It looks like my comments (sea level stuff and weird science) were the last to make it onto ERV before its destruction. I hope the same fate doesnt befall you here. (Please do let us know if you ever hear what happened and why. As you know Id just started up a blog at blogspot. If my response to you was so toxic, I expect I should get myself moved elsewhere soon.)
In my last comments at erv-blogspost there were several apostrophes. Im taking no risks of apostrophe-induced toxiciy here. Ill have to be careful, though.
Posted by: penguindreams | April 28, 2008 7:06 PM
Yay! This is like the best ever!
I do hope that Seed don't mind the smell of roast creationist, in the morning. ERV sure does throw a big BBQ.
Glad to see you made it, anyway. :)

I found you via Pharyngula. It seems Google did some housecleaning recently. A site I write for had their adsense account revoked and G refused to pay them a penny of what was earned. Something about the citizen journalism site being bad for their advertisers...
At least you weren't alone in the mess...
Posted by: Alicia P | April 28, 2008 8:19 PM
Hi Abbie...
Glad to see you made it to ScienceBlogs. I have been following your blog for several months, ever since I first read about you on Pharyngula. I like your style.
Looks like Arnold had a lot of fun making that mess. The worst my dog ever did was eat the door mat.

Posted by: Monado in Toronto again | April 28, 2008 9:00 PM

So I would like to add your blog to my Google Reader, but I can't seem to find it. If you happen to stick either an Add to Google link on your page or if you could send me your feed url, that would rock! Thank you! I look forward to checkin' out your blog stylings :)

Welcome to SciBorgs, ERV.
On backing up blog pages, or websites in general, I would recommend using a crawler/website mirrorer like HTTrack. Its freely download-able and GPL'd. You give it a list of root-pages which it downloads, then searches within them for links to other pages, which it then downloads and so on. Each such link is checked against a set of specified criteria (within a domain, at a 'link-depth' lesser than a specified number, containing or not-containing a specified keyword, etc.) before downloading so as to ensure that you don't end up with the whole intarweb on your hard-disk. It saves all these pages in a directory structure of your specification, and re-writes links to images, other pages in you site, etc. so that they still work, while leaving external links unchanged.
My experience is that while it mostly does what you ask of it, its best to check your downloads for completeness, as it sometimes tends to miss some links that you wanted. You also need to keep an eye on it while it does its thing, lest you messed up the command codes and inadvertently asked it to download the whole internet.
At any rate, even with its imperfections, its far more convenient than saving each page separately.
