ONE MILLION VISITORS!

Category: BLAG
Posted on: July 15, 2010 1:02 PM, by ERV

I was so scared this was gonna happen while I was at the dentist this morning, but some time this afternoon/evening, New ERV (not including Old ERV) is gonna get its one millionth visitor!

YAY!

Normally I would demand sacrifices and lulz for a big celebration, but I got Lortab, so... Im going to go to sleep now... But I would appreciate lulz in the comments when I wake up...

YAY!!!

Congratulations! I hope some significant percentage of those visitors are non-scientists that have profited from what you have to say. You have a real gift for explaining a complex subject in a way that a non-biologist (or even a non-scientist) can understand.

I described you on my blog once as:

"Another young woman I adore. Abbie Smith, AKA ERV for her studies of endogenous retroviruses, is currently working on her Ph.D. Her incisive mind and caustic tongue are the bane of Young Earth Creationists everywhere. As she points out, she's good at ambushing them at events because she looks like a sweet young thing who wouldn't say boo, but underneath that adorable exterior beats the heart of a pit bull. It may not be a coincidence that her dog, Arnie, is a pit bull.

Other than watching her destroy creationists, one reason I really enjoy reading her blog is that she makes accessible a complicated topic about which I know little. "

Natural causes are insufficient to explain how a mere blog could rack up such an impossibly huge number like a million hits! Do you know how big a million is? It's a lot more than I could count in a couple of minutes, so obviously your blog proves that evolution cannot happen. So, by default, the Bible is literally, 100% true. Praise Jesus!

Did you win yet?

What did you win?

Is it expensive?

Can I have it?

Still 258 off 1,000,000!

I already got my prize for the day. A root canal and tooth reconstruction (dont shatter your teeth, children).

I do get the general details of each visitor-- As long as the 1,000,000 person doesnt brows anon, I could send them something... Hmmm... *looks around the apartment in a druggy daze*

Abbie deserves all the recognition she can get; it's a fantastic site with a lot of information on an important but somewhat esoteric subject.

I wouldn't want her to change a thing, really, though I disagree with her on plenty of stuff. It's HER blog, in HER voice, and every time I've come here I've learned something worth knowing.

If I'm the lucky visitor it's going to be easy to reward me. You know what I want.

My sympathy for your dental state, Abbie. Mine have held out a bit longer, as I am a bit longer in the tooth, but last winter one of my molars started molin' real bad and has now been replaced with a fake cap on a stick. Currently waiting for its opposite number to follow suit.

Hope you get at least some little cash inflow for all these hits, now that you have that money hole to sink it into.

I too have enjoyed lurking here. Informative and fun. Please keep going!

Sorry, Prometheus. Friend found out on Friday that his dog is gravely ill. Couple that with the dentistry fun and people losing their fucking minds over stupid shit, Im just not in the mood for posting, *sigh*

not exactly true lulz but Texas citizens seem far saner about textbooks than their wingnut leaders, e.g.

http://www.news8austin.com/content/top_stories/272487/poll-shows-most-texans-reject-school-curriculum-process

you have my sympathies on the dental work (not to diminish your friends dog and generally life insanity) as I had two front teeth shatter a few weeks back

p.s. do not give Jerry Coyne an ipod; give him a medal for putting up with almost as much crud as you, PZ and others

51

Sorry Abbie, have some lulz....

We spent a month thinking our Boston Terrier (see medieval illustrations of a hell mouth) had epilepsy and were considering cumulative brain damage versus phenol barbi zombie dog.

Turns out he just such a pig he eats himself into an oxygen deprived stupor-seizure.....little bastard scared us to death.

Now we get to watch him eat and teach him to breathe in-between steam shovel sized bites of kibble.

It's working but the associated gas releases are peeling the paint off the kitchen walls.

Posted by: Prometheus | July 19, 2010 5:43 PM

52

lulz for you all--

Since my friends dogs been sick, I have been SMOTHERING Arnie with lovies and snuggles.

Its gotten to the point where I am actually annoying him.

Last night, he was all snuggled up in a ball on the sofa, so I went over and hugged him and loved him and hugged him and loved him-- no joke, he lets out this HUGE SIGH, gets up, and moves.

LOL!

Last night, he was curled up on the foot of my bed as we were about to go to sleep. So I hugged him and loved him... and he growled at me. ROFL!!!

I was like 'ARNIE! WHATS THE MATTER?? YOU NO WANT LOVIES?? *loveyloveylovey*"

Arnie: grrrrrrrrowl... *grin*

Me: 'YOU NO WANT LOVIES????'

Arnie: GRRRRROWL *play chompie chompies my hand* *smothers me in kisses*

Me: 'OKAY I GIVE YOU MORE LOVIES!!' *tackles puppy* *puppy runs off to get toy* *we play tug of war for 15 minutes and collapse in a pile of giggles and glitter and rainbows*

Congratulations ERV! And much sympathy on the root canal. I had one about 45 years ago when I was a kid. It sucked big-time. Hopefully, the technology improved.

Sorry about your friend's dog. I hope he/she can recover.

Nice job. Read your blog all the time. Like the style of writing...

Averaging 2500 visitors a day takes a lot of work. Can't imagine how hard you must have worked at this.

Congrats!
