A (qualified) 'woo-hoo!'

I hold in my hand a letter from our Provost informing me that my sabbatical leave for academic year 2008-2009 is awarded.

Of course, this is contingent on:

  • My actually getting tenure (something which will not be official, one way or another, until May 23).
  • My filing a promissory note (basically, allowing the university to come after me for financial losses should I not return to my position after my sabbatical).
  • "Budget availability." Which ... have you heard that California's budget situation is not so good?

So, probably I have next academic year to do some serious writing, assuming none of the things that can go wrong do go wrong.

Cross your fingers.

More like this

Yeah, baby! w00t!

Fingers are crossed but I doubt that's needed. Your university is incredibly fortunate to have you on the faculty.

But I understand - just like a research grant, I don't believe I have it until the award is in my hands. Keep us posted. . .and guarded congratulations!

good for you! your blog writing is going to increase exponentially next year, right?

At my university, there are various documents which say a sabbatical is a right, other documents say it is a privilige. I have been on two different faculty committees charged with resolving the matter. We carefully considered the situation and quietly slunk away without resolving anything. We figured that any cure would be worse than the disease.

Ugh... Budgetary considerations... that's frightening.

I haven't been keeping up, but... did you get unofficial word that tenure was approved?

That sucking sound is the mother holding her breath. While she looks good in blue, she does not look good blue.

Hope you get unofficial word on tenure before May 23 so I can turn un-blue.
