AT THE CONVERGENCE OF EVOLUTION AND GENETICS

About evolgen

side_view_toon_small.JPG We talk about molecular population and evolutionary GENETICS and GENOMICS. You know, the caliper measurement of a gene's evolvability in moles.

Eschewing obfuscation ever since Morgan.

The Eisens Continue to Rock the PLoS

Category: AcademiaBiology

Jonathan Eisen is the new Academic Editor in Chief at PLoS Biology, and he's kicking it off with this editorial. In his editorial, Jonathan describes how he became an Open Access publishing advocate. The header of his article features a short biography with an interesting item:

Jonathan A. Eisen is Academic Editor-in-Chief at PLoS Biology. He is also at the University of California Davis Genome Center, with joint appointments in the Section of Evolution and Ecology and the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, University of California Davis, Davis, California, United States of America. E-mail: jaeisen@ucdavis.edu. Blog: http://phylogenomics.blogspot.com.

It's a link to Jonathan's blog! Speak of the devil.

This is also further evidence that the Eisens are taking over PLoS. Jonathan's brother, Mike, is one of the co-founders of PLoS.

I particularly liked how he mentioned that really saw the point of OA because he worked at a research institute where many articles one wanted to read were unavailable. Having worked with Jonathan at that very same institute (TIGR), and currently working at its successor (JCVI), I certainly agree and get annoyed when people claim that "everybody who needs to read a journal article already has access".
