SMU President Calls Proposed G.W. Bush Library a "Boon" That Would Increase National Visibility

Calling concerns about building George W. Bush's presidential library there unfounded, Southern Methodist University's president told faculty Wednesday the project would increase the school's visibility nationwide...."Over time, the political components of the library complex will fade and the historical aspects will ascend," Turner told 175 of the 600-member faculty at their spring meeting....Wednesday's meeting came about a week after a Faculty Senate meeting in which some professors raised concerns about the library -- everything from whether it would be a terrorist target to whether fundraising would hurt SMU's centennial campaign.

Last week when I first spotlighted this simmering showdown in Texas, some readers playfully questioned in posted comments which books might be banned, or which books might carry disclaimers. Clearly evolution, would be out, predicted one post, while another wondered if Harry Potter would be allowed.

Harry Potter is far too intellectual for the Bush the Younger library.

You misunderestimate Bush. He would love Harry Potter Books, if he could read at their grade level. Good guys are very good. Bad guys are very bad. Just like real life. Young good guy lost parents to old bad guy. Hey, bad guys wanted to kill my Daddy, too.

Nasty animals and monsters. Get Cheney to go hunting. End of problem.

Creepy dark forest at the edge of campus. Gotta be great opportunities for brush clearing.

Big man on campus has rich powerful Daddy. But not everybody likes him. So he surrounds himself with stupid yes-men. Just like real life.

There's a real neat sport with a Q in it (don't think of Iraq or al Qaeda, don't think of the elephant in the room). Where was I? Oh, yeah. Real neat sport. I bet I could be a cheerleader for it. Could I have a butterbeer? Make it a double. I wish I could be the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. Or that sport with a Q. I didn't plan this war to be popular. Mission Accomplished!
