Florida School Stands Up for what they Believe In

Which in this case would be that an intelligent designer created life, or some such drivel.

Ed Brayton has details on this. Apparently the majority of the school board in Lakeland, Florida oppose the current statewide standards for Florida, which promote the teaching of excellent evolutionary biology instead of 17th century religious drivel.

One of the school board members, Margaret Lofton, said:

"If it ever comes to the board for a vote, I will vote against the teaching of evolution as part of the science curriculum. If (evolution) is taught, I would want to balance it with the fact that we may live in a universe created by a supreme being as well."

I gotta say, it is so much better when they are explicit in their abject ignorance.

Greg;

No scientist or science minded person should underestimate the resolve of the religious fundamentalist, especially here in the southern states.

To wit, proponents of the intelligent design have apparently forced out the science curriculum director of the Texas Education Agency. Her crime, giving the appearance of bias toward the inclusion of intelligent design in the Texas education curriculum.

"I would want to balance it with the fact that we may live in a universe created by a supreme being as well."

I hope this woman gets her way. It gives us an opening to spread the gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Arrr!
