Urgent Notice regarding Impeachment

Category: Politics
Posted on: November 5, 2007 5:57 PM, by Greg Laden

I've just been handed the following notice:

"Congressman Dennis Kucinich will introduce a Resolution in the House of Representatives to impeach Dick Cheney." You are being asked to call your member of Congress now to ensure that this passes.

The bill is House Res. 333."

I suppose it makes sense to take Cheney out first, then impeach Bush later. Perhaps.

If Cheney is impeached, does Pelosi become VP or does Bush get to name a new VP?

Is this the same HR333 that has been stalled/blocked for months now?

Max: Good question. Normally, if a VP leaves office, I believe the President appoints a new VP with the advice and consent of congress. I do not know for certain that this applies to impeachment, but I would guess it would .

But then, while the Senate is in the process of consenting and advising, you quick go and impeach Bush. Then, the line of succession would have to go to the Speaker of the House.

We don't have time to fiddle around. Impeach 'em both at the same time. Pelosi would make a good interim president.

This post makes it clear to me that you are probably considerably to the left of me, which means perhaps I've just been in Texas a bit too long.

My guess is Bush would refuse to appoint a VP that the Democrats should agree with (course, this batch of democrats could agree anyway) making it very politically difficult for Pelosi to go along with Bush's impeachment.

It would definitely set a bad precident for Pelosi to impeach herself into power.
