The Robot Takeover is Getting Closer

Some scary new technology will soon be coming to market: video game controllers that let you use your thoughts rather than your hands. The EPOC neuroheadsets are “designed to detect conscious thoughts and expressions as well as ‘non-conscious emotions’ by reading electrical signals around the brain”.

Then there’s this:

Japanese to get portable personal trainers — on their ears from PhysOrg.com
A Japanese firm on Tuesday unveiled a portable, personal exercise instructor in the form of a headset which will give instant advice by checking the pulse on the wearer’s earlobe.

All I could think of when I saw that helmet is what a fantastic boon it will be for development of assistive technology. Quadraplegics, paraplegics, people with palsy disorders could all have a new lease on mobility and activity.

People are going to want them to change the channel; pressing buttons is so much work.
But I want to put a stop to remote control devices being called “robots”! When true AI is developed, then we’ll see some robot overlords. “Though you took precautions, I could see your lips move.” – HAL 9000
