So, I'm watching the Twins game, and an advert comes on that I'm not paying too much attention to. It has a series of vignettes. For instance: A bottle of champagne is being opened, and the voice over says "I'm a bottle of champaign that costs only six dollars but tastes like a million..." or words to that effect.
Each of the vignettes is a different miniature story about this or that entity, and the achievement of some kind of status for that entity, with all the different entities utterly unrelated to each other except in achieving some sort of status.
The ad was for some sort of sports related thing, which had achieved some status .. I was paying very little attention. If I see the ad again I'll update you on what it was about.
Anyway ...
... right in the middle of the ad it shows a cephalopod flailing around on a pure white background. The voice over says "I have achieved cult status..."
So, an asteroid has been named after PZ Myers, and now the cephalopod has achieved cult status on a major TV ad. What's next?

"Constellation PZ Myers"

The ad was for NHL Playoffs coverage, for what it's worth.

That explains the cephalopods.
Detroit's fans have a habit of throwing octopuses on the ice.
From about.com: "The first octopus landed on the ice during the Red Wings' 1952 Stanley Cup run, courtesy of brothers Pete and Jerry Cusimano, who owned a fish market. If you know your cephalopods, you will know that an octopus has eight tentacles. In those days it took eight playoff wins to claim the Cup, hence the supposed symbolism of the gesture."
At least the Wings have managed to win a Stanley Cup since expansion, unlike some other teams I could mention.
