Monique Davis is Sorry

Posted on: April 11, 2008 4:37 PM, by Greg Laden

image.jpgWorst Person in the World Monique Davis, who has a thing against atheists, apologized for her recent rant against atheism. after widespread public criticism. She called the object of her tirade, Rob Sherman, and said she was sorry.

Sherman says Davis told him she "took out her frustrations and emotions on me and that she shouldn't have done that." Sherman says Davis' explanation was "reasonable" and that he forgives her.

According to Sherman and State Rep. Jack Franks....Davis claims her outburst was triggered by learning shortly beforehand...that there'd been another Chicago Public School student killed.

State Rep. Jack Franks was chairing the hearing that day and says Davis' outburst was uncharacteristic, adding "she was having a bad day."

Nice of Sherman to forgive her. And we should all forgive her. But you know that she was merely echoing what a lot of people think. Her apology does not make the problem of intolerance go away.

The problem is she didn't apologize for her intolerance. She needs to apologize for her bigotry, not just her volume.

Way to chair the meeting, Mr. Franks.

I agree with Science Avenger. The apology was for her demeanor, which is nice; and it was directed to Rob Sherman but it had contained no acknowledgment that she is ashamed of her statement that atheists don't belong in American politics. She never stated that she was willing to revisit her idea that atheism is evil.

She needs a "consciouness raising."

I shouldn't forgive her - she didn't apologize to me, only to the guy who was testifying.
