Anti-Gay Initiative in Arkansas Failing

Yes, Virginia, eventually the annoying and evil people will dry up and blow away. An anti-gay organization in Arkansas is trying to get a ballot initiative going to ban unmarried couples (and thus gay couples) from adopting children. But the Arkansas Family Council Action Committee is not getting the signatures it needs.

In an email to supporters committee chair Jerry Cox said that while it expects to have the required number of signatures by Monday it expects that about 25 percent will be disqualified.

Under Arkansas law groups seeking to have initiatives placed on the ballot have an additional 30-days from the deadline to collect more names if they collected the required number but saw some of the names discounted.

“Response from churches has improved considerably. This petition drive has momentum, and I believe, by God’s grace and with lots of hard work, we’re going to put this measure on the ballot and see it passed in November.”

LGBT rights group Arkansas Families First said it intends to fight the initiative.

The Arkansas Family Council, was largely responsible for the passage of an amendment to the Arkansas Constitution banning gay marriage.

It’s not that long ago that it was illegal to marry outside your race. Eventually the haters got over that. Now gays are getting married, so in time all this will blow over, although the haters will remain. Somehow hatred seems incurable.

It’s a bit depressing that so many evangelicals fight homosexuality with a vengeance but ignore the 7 deadly sins and forget that “Do not judge lest you be judged” (Matthew 7:1) is a quote from Jesus. How come none of these people are listening to their own book?

That right there says more than enough about the Constitutionality of such amendments.

Let them prattle on about it. To borrow from an old culture warrior, “They just can’t keep their mouths shut.” Eventually, their own words will be their undoing.
