Open Access Blogging Competition Winners Announced!!!

Posted on: October 15, 2008 2:32 PM, by Greg Laden

Yesterday was Open Access Day and there was a blogging competition designed to promote Open Access and stuff. People were asked to write about Open Access, address certain issues, and use the phrase "Open Access Day" in their blogs. These blog posts were then gathered up by Internet Robots and evaluated by a team of judges.

Price Waterhouse has tallied the results and secured the information about the winners in a small black brief case, which they are carrying into the building right now. The only information we have is that owing to the excellent nature of the entrants, TWO winners have been selected.

And now, as a hush falls on the audience, and the lights on stage brighten ever so subtly, the briefcase is opened, and an envelope is passed to Bora, Scientist and Blogger, of A Blog Around the Clock.

Bora starts to open the envelope, but he is too choked up and can't see through the tears welling up in his eyes. Hands trembling, he passes the envelope to his colleague, Liz Allen, of PLoS.

Steadily and with conviction, Allen finishes the job of opening the envelope and slips out a folded piece of card stock. She opens the envelope, and her eyes widen. A visible gasp, as her breast heaves and a hand moves to cover her mouth.

Stepping to the microphone: "Ladies and Gentlemen...," Ms. Allen says in a clear and triumphant voice. "The winners are....."

".... The Winners are Dorothea Salo and Greg Laden!!!"

Dorothea leaps to her feet punching the air again and again shouting "I knew it! I knew I could nail this one! It's about time, dammit! It's about time the Academy recognized the Daughter of an Anthropologist!!!!"

Across the aisle, and a few rows back, Laden rose briefly to his feet then feinted dead away. His agent, JJ Bettencourt, stepped over (well, actually, on) his body, striding confidently on stage to retrieve his percentage of the handsome award. Poetry in motion.

Further accounts of the event are here:

Drum roll please - and the winner of the blogging competition is...?

And the Winner is.....!

Both entries will be posted here.
