Just when you think you should not go back into the water, something like this comes along and tells you....

You were absolutely right to not want to go back into the water.

That was a Gordian worm sliding out of a cricket.

And this is a Zombie Snail Parasite:

Gordian worms are commonly called horsehair worms; and said to be horsehairs which have become animated. One can see how this explaination could seem reasonable.

Maybe it's just because my biology teacher is obsessed with parasitology, but I am liking these videos in a that's-morbid-but-awe-inspiring sort of way.
