Drat. But at least more than just we Atheists are saying "No".

OT, but on the "Note on Poll results" page, I see William Gibson passed away a few days ago. Double drat.

I continue to be puzzled as to how and why the 1st amendment, so simple and clear on the subject of religious legislation, can be so blatantly ignored. Prop 8 being the most egregious recent example. But it is pretty much impossible to show the harm needed for "Standing" in order for the Constitutionality to be tested in the Supreme Court. Maybe Prop 8 is egregious enough?

Slightly OT, I think polling technologies should in general include mechanisms for contesting the choice of question and for adding clarifying info and questions. But that would take actually thinking about things, which seems to not go down well with the Joe Plumbers of this nation.

Double jeapardy is also routinely ignored, as is freedom of speech, press, and assembly. Unwarranted searches and seizures without probable cause are the norm.

We fought WWI and WWII, as well as Korea without the phrase. I made it most of the way through college saying the pledge without the phrase. Being a conservative, I would like to see the phrase removed. I think insertion of the phrase was a political decision, rather than theological, to clarify that our way of thinking was different from that of "Godless Communism". Pres Bush has been trying to sell the idea that freedom and domocracy are not just a Christian idea, but rather a human idea good for all races, sects, and creeds. I think inclusion of the phrase does not help. And, we are up against people who wish to substitute "Under Allah". So I think removal of the phrase would emphasize our belief in secular government.
