Vermont Gov Opposes Pro Gay Marriage Bill

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas says he will oppose legislation allowing same-sex marriages - a move likely to scuttle the bill expected to be introduced in January.

Vermont Senate Majority Leader John Campbell said earlier this week he would file the bill - to amend the state's civil union law to provide for full marriage - in the new session of the legislature.

But Campbell said the measure's success with fellow lawmakers would depend on the governor's support....

Maybe Duglas should ask his black constituents how they feel about "seporate but equal."

VT already has civil unions, so this is just to play catch-up with the states that allow marriage. The first civil rights law (the first in the nation) created a huge and rather unpleasant rift in the state. Four years after it was enacted it was not even an election issue, people had got used to it and the sky had not fallen.
I agree with Tyler.
