The Sheik "did not have sufficient education to understand he cannot whip other people like a dog" argued the lawyer of Sheik Falah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, accused of belt-whipping an American from Rochester, NY York who refused the sexual advances of the brother of the head of the United Arab Emirates. In Switzerland.
(story here)
These Sheiks can be such a pain. The brother of the Crown Prince or the King or whatever of Saudi Arabia (one of the many brothers, actually) had been living in the D.C. area back in the 1980s, and was forced by local authorities (despite his diplomatic immunity) to get out of Dodge. He ended up in Cambridge Mass where he and his entourage occupied the better part of an upper floor of the newly built Charles Swanky Hotel in Harvard Square.
That particular gentleman hired the Cambridge Police to do his bidding. The police would show up in a local park and shoo away all the mummies and kiddies and doggies, then a few minutes later the limos would come in and the Sheik-guy's family would show up so the Sheikettes could play untainted by any intermingling with the unwashed.
This was getting annoying, and a move was afoot to put a stop to it, when the unthinkable happened.
A young Palestinian woman who had apparently been purchased by the Sheik-Dude on the slave market decided to make a break for it, and did so by tying together a bunch of sheets to make a rope ladder, and attempted to lower herself from the fourth or fifth floor of the Charles to the ground below. Lucky for her this was a) one of the most crowded places around so lots of people saw her, and b) the local police and fire department already had a well oiled routine for plucking humans from positions of dangling and other forms of stranding in high places. (The Harvard students were always getting stuck up on things in The Square, which is by the way where the phrase "Stuck Up" comes from.) So even though she had only half the length needed, and found herself hanging twenty feet or so above the pavement, she was quickly rescued and ultimately given asylum.
And the Sheik Dude was forced to move on to some other American city.
