19,958 and counting...

So close .... remember, if you use a real email address when leaving a comment, I'll be able to attribute that comment to you if it happens to be 20K plus or minus 1.

If you want the hat. Or the thong. Or whatever.

There's a thong?
That has to go to me.
I wanted the hat for myself but now I think I've got to have the thong for the little woman.
What do I have to do for both?

ggab,

me.

The hat is so close I can smell it.

At least, I hope that's just the hat I'm smelling.

Ok, I can't keep my eyes open any more, I'm bowing out for the night.

Congrats to whoever wins it!

Must resist urge to spam Greg with 40 comments...

Posted by: Joshua Zelinsky | December 4, 2008 11:21 PM

8

Josh - 40 comments is a lot more reasonable than my original plan to spam him with 350 of them... :)

Posted by: Ian | December 4, 2008 11:23 PM

9

As a guy, I totally want the thong. That way when girls accuse me of only thinking with one thing...

Posted by: Jonsi | December 4, 2008 11:24 PM

10

Wait, there's a hat involved? But no monkey?

Posted by: george.wiman | December 4, 2008 11:25 PM

11

I think a monkey would be a good alternative prize.

Posted by: K. | December 4, 2008 11:31 PM

12

No fair! I want a monkey (but only if it can shoot a machine gun).

Surely the count has been exceeded by now, no..??

I figure we'll just keep going until Greg tells us it's over.

...
...truelol...

Yeah, I gathered that was your strategy, from all your entries in the 'comment roll'.

Not that _I_ would engage in such behavior..!! (just kidding ya...)

I have thought a few times in the past little while about letting it go and just going to bed. But my cat decided to take a nap on my lap, so I don't see myself getting up right away :-)

I've never won anything this cool.

Who wouldn't want a nice hat?

Does it have bells?

And, hey, who are all of these parvenus who are suddenly posting comments? Some of us have been here all along!

Posted by: Zeno | December 5, 2008 2:09 AM

...

@Zeno: Hey, it takes something important to decloak...

I don't get the 20K plus or minus one thing. What's that about? Why not just 20K?

Posted by: Joel | December 5, 2008 2:38 AM

24

Because there are three things. One for 19,999; one for 20,000; one for 20,001.

19,989?

Love the idea of the "Central Commenter", in his/her secret fortress under the ice at the North Pole, fiendishly manipulating every thread in the blogosphere to whatever diabolical end is in the plan.

"I think" everyone should take advantage of this resource... fascinating stuff!

I heard Joe Rogan say that we hit 20k weeks ago, but that "Greg", an obvious government agent, is still collecting names of people who dare to "I think"...

I'd like the thong, but unless it comes with a matching woman to wear it it wouldn't be all that useful to me. A hat without a monkey is useless, too (I'll take a chimp or a bonobo as a subsitute.)

Yep, a mug - that would be just the ticket.

32

So what's the word?

Posted by: JanieBelle | December 5, 2008 6:18 AM

33

Okay, I give up. It's after 2AM her and I've got to get up in the morning at 6. By that time one of you east coasters will have posted and won. Damn! I guess maybe I'll just have to buy that hat or mug. I'm pushing 60, my wife's not far behind me and we're both getting a little gray and frumpy. Neither one of us would be doing the world a favor by sportin' a thong.

Posted by: Rick Quarton | December 5, 2008 6:22 AM

Aw Rick,

You read Greg Laden's blog, which in all likelyhood means you have a brain, and further, that you use it.

You don't need no stinkin' thong to be teh sexay hawt.

Kisses

...and kisses to your Mrs.

Say, TUIBGUY has gotten a full 10% of the comments that GLB has gotten. Three left to go, and there will be a 2000th comment. No prizes, just honor.

Posted by: Mike Haubrich, FCD | December 5, 2008 6:45 AM

Mike, you should at least offer naked pics or something.

Posted by: JanieBelle | December 5, 2008 7:05 AM

37

Okay, how about naked pics of JanieBelle? Or Kate. If I offered naked pics of me, I would never get another comment.

By my count, this is 19998. Assuming no disqualifications, and if no one posts while I'm typing.

Posted by: Nemo | December 5, 2008 7:24 AM

41

But how accurate is that? How close have you been monitoring?

Posted by: JanieBelle | December 5, 2008 7:25 AM

42

I thought we went over a while back, but in case I'm wrong...

lol, you don't have to count this one, Greg.

Never mind, I was completely ignoring the comments on other threads. D'oh!
