The Twenty Thousandth Comment Award

Category: Blogging
Posted on: December 1, 2008 10:42 AM, by Greg Laden

As you know, this blog is heading quickly towards its twenty thousand's comment. Now, I know this is nothing like a million comments, but it is still a good round number in base ten. And we forgot to notice the ten thousandth comment. So we're celebrating this one.

There will be three awards. This is not a contest, but an award. The person closest to being the 20 thousandth commenter according to my calculations, who has provide an email address while commenting that works so that I can reach them, and who answers my query within a reasonable amount of time, etc. etc. etc. (restrictions apply, not valid in Utah, and so on and so forth) will be awarded with a wonderful Greg Laden's Blog "I Think" hat:

The second closest identifiable commenter will receive the lovely Darwin is Thinking Coffee Mug:

And the third closest identifiable commenter will receive the consolation prize award:

Substitutions are allowed.

We are currently at 19,658 comments. We could reach 20,000 any day now!

I dunno, I think I'd as soon have the third prize as any of them.

That's it! I am commenting on your blog every day from now on so I can be the Commenter 20,000. I need one of those excellent mugs!

Does the "substitution" come in different colors?

14

But what if we don't think? Do you want us to make liars out of that hat?

Posted by: Skemono | December 1, 2008 9:20 PM

15

Not gonna lie: I really want that hat.

Posted by: K. | December 1, 2008 10:24 PM

16

[Hint: If you click on the hat you can buy it. Fairly painless process, even if I've seen cheaper hats.]

Hey K - I sympathize - great hat. Unfortunately "Adjusts from 20" to 24"" is just not big enough for me

/me big head - nothing in it though ;)

Ok, Greg. I want the hat too but I'm also quite interested in Coleman declared as the loser in his bid for re-election. When will results be certified?

Just one more comment pointing out how many random commonts you're going to get over the next few days.

(Not that I'm going to carpet-bomb, I also only take a single glance when an artist at FurAffinity does a "get my nth pageview" contest.)

Agh! My counting was off. After your last number confirmation earlier today, I had been keeping track. But I had to step away from the computer for an hour or so in the afternoon, so I adjusted to what I thought would be an appropriate number. Just before you posted 19,957, I was up to 19,971.

Whoops.

For some reason I haven't yet been able to determine, it seems that urban regions are beginning to see a higher infestation of rodents than before. As a landscaper on the side, I continually come across yards that are devastated by rabbits, rats and mice, as well as a few other critters. Though I haven't been able to find the cause of this recent infestation, many people are exploring their options for pest control.

Dammit. I don't wear hats, underwear or drink things. This contest is rigged I tells ya! RIGGED!
