Turkish Hackers with Religious Overtones Hack Science Site

Category: BloggingCreationismReligion
Posted on: December 8, 2008 6:44 AM, by Greg Laden

3D Science News is a news site that provides Science News in ... 3D! The idea behind this venture is, in part, that 3D may make science more fun and interesting. The site has featured talks by PZ Myers and all sorts of other cool stuff. You wear the funny 3D glasses (which cost about a dollar each) and yo yo's and bats and stuff come flying out at you while you learn science. In fact, the producers of the site have asked me to do a bit for them, which will happen some time over the next two months. Which I guess makes me a yo yo.

I pointed to the site yesterday so you would all know about it, and Eagle Eyed Commenter Gerald noted that the site had been hacked!

So if you want to see what a hacked site looks like, maybe you can go there now and have a look. In case the site gets unhacked first, this is what it looks like:

If you enter "ChagLar & H.T.T." into Google you can find a couple of other sites they've apparently hacked as well. Of course, you shouldn't encourage them by looking, but given the science link, I thought you'd like to know.

Was this a creationist attack or just a coincidence that hackers from one of the most creationist countries in the world (Turkey) replaced a science education site with the icon of the Caliphate? ... we will probably never know.

For the information of anyone looking to track down who did this, they may have an account at Image Shack. The account number is img353. I figured this out by checking the source code on some of their previous hacks. Might be why they do the ANSII image now.

Thanks for looking into it. I don't we're going to bother chasing a Turkish teenager (19 years old, I hear) down. He's not worth much trouble other than patching the site and getting it back up. Kind of like pigeons on a building.

Dear Turkish hackers. You have read me incorrectly if you believe I am deleting your comments out of fear or unease. (Your childish exploitation of Western xenophobia and racism is mildly amusing, though.) I delete comments such as yours because you are crackers (though you call yourself hackers). He who cracks my colleague's site, as you have, is my enemy.

I know enough about you to find you next time I am in your neighborhood. I'll look you up.

Fear me.

Oh, teenage Turkish Tards!

They'll get over this little boy crap when they discover girls. Of course, by then all the girls will have moved on and found men, leaving these morons to sit in their Mommy's basement playing with each other.

How sad. (or funny, depending on your perspective)
