Did Obama Cause the Swine Flu Outbreak?

Category: Michele BachmannRepublicans
Posted on: April 28, 2009 6:56 PM, by Greg Laden

Apparently, this is being seriously considered. By whom you may ask?

Michlele Bachmann! Who else!?!?!?

Bachmann is quoted in the Star Tribune as saying that it is an "interesting coincidence" that the last swine flu outbreak also occurred under a Democratic president.

That, of course, would be Democratic President Gerald Ford. Who was a Republican.

To be fair, Bachmann is saying that she really isn't blaming Obama for the swine flu. She just finds it "very interesting." Just sayin'

I certainly hope that she does not find out that Woodrow Wilson was president at the time of the 1918 flu epidemic. Of course, that was back in the days when Republicans were Democrats and Democrats were Republicans.

Thanks to Monica for pointing this remarkable story out to me. I was eating a taco at the time, unfortunately.

Not a carnitas taco, I hope. That would make you doubly doomed.

I'm surprised Bachmann hasn't caught the swine flu yet, she's such a fucking pig. What an idiot. How has she even survived this long, as in, hasn't accidentally caused her own death?

Words fail.

This is the kind of thing a 5 year old says. Fully functional, sane adults do not act this way.

She almost as insightful as Ann Coulter.

Yup, and that actually makes perfect sense in a fundie mind. In fundie-speak, she's not trying to imply that Obama actively caused the present outbreak - she's trying to imply that swine flu is God's regular punishment for electing a Democratic president.

As for being off by a year - come on, she's four centuries behind the times, how could she keep track of a single year or two...

No, no, no - c'mon I know it's all dark and fetid in there but get inside the, for lack of a better term, "mind" of someone like Bachmann - what's really happening here is the rabid right wing, knowing that it was their own agents inside the federal government who created and released this virus just in time to kill a prominent Mexican scientist the day after he greets Obama, are laying the groundwork to cast suspicion on the Democrats in office.

See it's , er simple ;)

An idiot here in Iowa commented that the timing of swine flu and gay marriage was very interesting also. Strange people.

I don't get it. Because God hates gay people, he punishes the states that allow for gay marriage by... killing Mexicans? I would have assumed that the whack-jobs would have been pro-killing-Mexicans.

Well, she was 1/2 right. It is a coincidence.

I don't think we will ever run out of material for The Carnival. What carnival, you ask?

The Carnival to Replace Michelle Bachmann!

@Philip IV, nice analysis... it's hard to figure out where these crazy thoughts come from, but you gotta see it from the fundie's point of view (hard to do).

As people on other blogs have pointed out, it was in 1976 under Ford, not Carter, when the last outbreak of swine flu occurred.

They were saying this morning that not a single pig has been found to be ill from this particular strain, so there you go. She could be a carrier, though.
