Will someone remind me again about how patriotic Texans are?
Posted by: D. C. Sessions | April 25, 2009 12:52 PM
OK. As a Texan, I should warn you that if you were to seriously call me unpatriotic to my face, I would most likely interpret that as an assault on my character. Furthermore, I would probably then feel compelled kick your ass down one street and up another while I elucidate you, in no uncertain terms, about the folly of making false assumptions about an entire class of diverse people who run the full gamut of every human condition you can name.
So, please, do avoid making such blanket statements about the patriotism of Texans. Some of us take it quite seriously.
I might also point out that some of those same knuckleheads you despise so are Texan in name only, having moved here from elsewhere; including from your state and every other. Half the residents in our state are not born Texan, and many of those have inflated ideas of what being Texan means. (Hint: it's a lot more than cowboy hats and horses.)
And yes, this talk of secession bothers me, too. That is unpatriotic at the least, and certainly seditious. I wish my more conservative fellow Texans would knock it off. On the other hand, rash talk like this undermines their chances in the next election so I'm not going to rail too much against it. Unless and until I am proven wrong.
