Posted on: July 3, 2009 3:22 PM, by Greg Laden

There's got to be a good explanation. Either way, somebody's gonna loose themselves a trailer ...

Ah, good, now her plate's clear to run for the presidency in 2012.

What? She blamed costly ethics violation investigations as part of the reason she's stepping down? ... Nah, that still won't stop her from making a run at Obama.

My guess is she just figured out what she could make on the wingnut welfare gravy train. I'm guessing she is good for $20-30 K a speech, 20 or so speeches a year. It would be hard for her to embezzle that much in Alaska.

Hey Jason! You know, she's not living all that far from Canada at the moment. Perhaps we could convince her that she should apply for Canadian citizenship and then run for office.

But no… I would never want to do that to Canada. Not even Turkmenistan. Gosh, I can't think of anyone I'd foist her upon. Hey, I've got it! We can teach her to say "Welcome to Wal-Mart."

Welcome gosh darn it to Wall. Oh, and Mart also too.

I really think that she is taking the time so she can go out to the range and improve her aim so that she can fight off the Obama Internal Army that is massing up to take conservatives (who fill out the full census) to interment camps. She will be bunking with Michelle.

Also, there is this possibility: (yahoo news)

Jerry McBeath, a veteran political science professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, called the pending resignation a "smart move," both for Palin and the state.

"Alaska is an isolated stage from which to operate if you want to figure in American national politics. I don't know what she has in mind, some TV show or some national radio show. There are opportunities for her, I'm sure."

"After all, Rush Limbaugh is getting old, and cranky, and the airwaves and the videowaves would benefit form a new present. She certainly is photogenic, and that is her area of experience. So I would say it's a response to opportunity instead of 'getting out before they get you,'" he said.

Well even Michael Jackson's death isn't completely keeping people from discussing Sanford. They needed an impressive distraction.

I've listened to her, er, speech - um, statem - - - string of words twice now, and I think she's trying to say that she was drafted for the WNBA.

My first thought was she was dropping out to prepare her campaign as Alaskan Independence Party candidate for president in 2012. You may have seen the emails from last October that were just revealed. But now I have a different idea.

I still don't understand how saying that she can't take the heat in Alaska would qualify her for any elected position above dog-catcher. (You do elect dog-catchers in the U.S., don't you?)

Speaking of trailers, that reminds me of my favourite gay joke (well, after "irreconcilable similarities"):

Q. What does a lesbian bring to a second date?

A. A U-Haul(tm)

(That's because they're moving in together.)

My step-daughter just moved in with her new girl-friend. We teased he about it.

My first thought was that maybe she was quitting to become a community organizer.

No, it's just a metaphor.
