Los Angeles Venue Cancels Intelligent Design Film

You'll recall that it was recently reported that the Californial Science Center, which is loosely affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, had planned a screening of "Darwin's Dilemma: The Mystery of the Cambrian Fossil Record" which is apparently a creationist documentary.

Well, now, the venue has cancelled the showing and the ID people are all lathered up about it.

The group claims the cancellation was an act of censorship, made after the center was pressured by the Smithsonian Institution, but the center chalked it up to a contract issue, without elaborating.

Coined "The Darwin Debates: A Forum for Dialogue," the nonprofit American Freedom Alliance had planned to premier a new Illustra Media documentary, "Darwin's Dilemma: The Mystery of the Cambrian Explosion," at the California Science Center on Oct. 25.

The Los Angeles-based alliance describes itself as a "nonpolitical, nonpartisan, movement of concerned Americans which identifies threats to western civilization." Those threats, according to the group include "the Islamic penetration of Europe" and "the growth of radical environmentalism."

Right. Non provit non partisan groups rarely form in relation to threats to Western Civilization. Those are usually White Supremacist groups or Religious Fundies.

John West has chimed in:

"I think this is an outrageous example of censorship and ideological discrimination," West said. "The thing about a contractual dispute is just a pretext and it's bogus. This really should be disturbing to anyone who believes in free speech."

I agree with West. It is bogus. But not nearly as bogus as John West, Intelligent Design, and this stupid film. Bottom line: Somebody, some staffer, at the California Science Center is either creationist or simply made a huge mistake. I assume the latter.

They could start by looking in a mirror.

You know...these kind of people never seem to mind when Europe runs around "penetrating" everyone else...

"...usually White Supremacist groups or Religious Fundies. "

The AFA site throws around the usual buzz phrases of "traditional families" and worries about the demographic decline Europe. The only thing that makes them stand out from other white supremacist groups or fundamentalist groups is they seem to be run by Jewish wingers. The founder, Avi Davis, also has a group promoting the support of Israel by end-time American fundamentalists.

I'm always amazed at this kind of Jewish activist. The white supremacists he cozies up to don't think he's white and the end-time fundamentalists only support Israel because they want all the Jews to go there and get killed to hurry the fundies salvation. if that wasn't enough on his plate, Davis also wants to join in with creationists and anti-environmentalists. He's almost managed to create a singularity of anti-modernism.
