The First Openly Gay MLB Owner

Category: GLBTA
Posted on: November 7, 2009 8:15 PM, by Greg Laden

The Chicago Cubs have become the first major-league team to have an openly gay owner according to the Windy City Times.

On Oct. 30, the Ricketts family became the new owners of MLB team, the Chicago Cubs.

The family bought the team and Wrigley Field for $845 million.

Laura Ricketts, one of the purchasers, is an open lesbian who serves on the board for Lambda Legal, the nationwide advocacy organization for gay and lesbian rights.

Now, how does one avoid coming up with clever quips that somehow marry gay humor and sports humor. Like ...

... actually, can't think of any.

Story is here.

It shouldn't matter to anyone in any way. It doesn't to me.
What is significant to me is that the family had an extra $845 million to buy a sports team and park!

Nice! And it does matter, NewEnglandBob, as it means we're making progress. *Especially* since it wasn't Rush L. Phew. And I'm not even a football fan.
