Why IS there a freakin' national prayer breakfast?
It exists to promote the delusion that America is a Christian nation, and to give "The Family" a convient event through which to influence US politicians. Jeff Sharlett in his book The Family: Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power explains how it came to exist. The FFRF has been fighting it for some time.

Well, that may be so but my communication with top FRFF leadership has left me extremely skeptical. On that basis I'd advise supporting groups like Mikey Weinstein's MRFF.
