There was a certain amount of Christmas shopping over the weekend, and I have to say the music was over the top this year. Or maybe I'm just getting more sensitive. In any event, it was driving me nuts.
So, I decided that I want to be in charge of the music from now on. And here is the playlist for the remainder of the holiday season:

I've never thought very highly of the Indigo Girls -- always found them preachy and insufferably bland. "Shame On You" is irresistible though -- both catchy and funny.

Ok, you're not banned. But you should know that this list of songs are all the non-preachy and really good ones. There are three additional covers they do as well which could be added to this list to get the Best of the Indigo Girls according to Greg.

I used to work at a shopping mall that had a three hour tape loop of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tunes. It played from mid November to New Year's day. Before that year, I didn't have strong feelings about Mannheim Steamroller. I do now. The word "loathe" comes to mind easily.
Indigo Girls or nearly anything else, would have been a welcome change.

At least you don't have family members who insist on listening to the local 100% Christmas/Holiday music station all the time you are home. It has become yet another reason I fucking hate this time of year.

Greg, there are certain stores that I keep track of for this time of year. Costco, for instance, doesn't do store-wide music. Neither does Wal-Mart (there are compensations for their management being terminally stingy.) Trader Joes is another (and nicer than Wal-Mart in many ways.)
Then there are the radio stations. Fortunately I have a pretty fair collection of CDs for car use, plus gizmos that let me plug my cellphone (with Pandora!!) into the car audio. It's worth finding out which radio stations are naughty and which are nice; one reason I now listen to KSLX is precisely because they have a "no Christmas music" policy at the same time their main competitor pulled a "nothing but" stunt starting at the beginning of November two years ago (AAAAAaaaarrrrrrrhhhhh!!!!! indeed.)
Or you can get stuff like "Twisted Christmas" as an antidote.

Try "christmas at Kmart" by the late great Root Boy Slim and His Sex Change Band.
Xmas music is one reason I subscribe to satellite radio.
