Scienceblogs ~ National Geographic Partnership Announced

Category: Blogging
Posted on: December 4, 2009 10:10 AM, by Greg Laden

Scienceblogs.com (of Seed Media Group) has entered into a partership with National Geographic.

Here is what this means:

1: All science bloggers must change the color of their banner to NGS Yellowish Gold.*

2: We bloggers can use some of the NGS resources such as photos and films. Move over YouTube!

3: There will be home page and channel features and cross linking and stuff causing a kind of New Media interconnectivication between Sb and NGS.

4: All Science Bloggers will be issued Gold Rolex Watches.*

5: People who normally read National Geographic but do not read Science Blogs will accidentally end up on this site more often. This is going to be embarrassing!

All kidding aside, this will be productive and fun. Thanks to Erin, our Community Manager and all the other folks as Seed and Sb for pulling off this arrangement!

As long as there aren't any content "guidlines".

Gabby: I have a congtract with Seed. It says no guidelines. Freedom of blog is key on sciencblogs.com and there would never be any consideration of guidelines or anything like that.

Will there be true NG style pictorials showing Sb festivities, Sbings dancing around a fire bare breasted, painted faces and at the heights of rapturous joy?

If you are not getting a Gold Rolex Watch, then what color is it? I would guess silver.

Greg sounds like great news. May bring You, Brian Switek, Ed Yong, PZ and others further into the forefront.

So the things on Twitter about having to blog in high heels and everyone blogging under their real name (which happens to be "Greg") aren't true? I'm crushed.

I wonder how much National Geographic paid to get a bunch of free content writers?

Nothing. We're free!

Nice. I loved reading old (70's and 80's) NG Mags when I was old enough for English. They led me to my interest in sciencey stuff.

And it seems that you, for one, welcome your new yellow overlords!

(Too easy, too easy, ...)
