Hateful people. Stupid people. The “I don’t even care if you think I’m crazy any more” kind of person.
OMFG. I am sorry, fellow humans, who happen to be Muslim.
Reminds me of this.
All that’s missing is the pointy hats and the burning crosses!!!!!
Even from Australia that looks like the anti-integration mobs of the 1960s.
@John Wilkins: That’s exactly what it looks and sounds like (not that I was there, but I’ve seen enough footage).
Even a broken clock is right twice a day – unfortunately the crazies’ opposition to sharia does have merit (not that there was anyone at that event trying to even discuss implementing sharia in OC, as far as I can tell). Every now and then, I find myself compelled to point out to some of the atheists/humanists I hang out with that, contrary to the oft-quoted proverb, the enemy of my enemy is just my enemy’s enemy.
Theo, I am opposed to someone faking a birth certificate and becoming president and actually being a Muslim spy, but Obama didn’t do that so I’m not a birther, and the birthers are stupid evil morons. In this case, are these people, the ones being harassed, Taliban? Sharia? This isn’t even a stopped clock being right twice a day. This is more like a clock has the number 8 on it and an Eight Ball has an 8 on it, so a clock can play pool!
Also, these teabaggers are only against a culture that abuses women because somebody told them to be, not because they have some strong sense of human rights or something!
“We’re patriotic Americans and we love our constitution and it’s going to stay that way!”
I get that you like the freedom of speech part, but you don’t seem so hot on the freedom of religion part.
Hmmm, I have included a lot of speculation xD
Greg, as a general rule, I think self-delusion is more common than outright fraud. I think the Tea Partiers really do think they are pro-women’s rights compared to Muslims. After all Tea Partiers want to give men and women different but equal societal roles and legal rights*, whereas the Muslims want to give women not just different, but UNequal roles and rights. That Muslims are not a monolith, poverty is an influential hidden factor in this equation, and American Muslims are much more wealthy, educated, and progressive on average escapes the Tea Partiers’ notice, because, well, it’s inconvenient for the narrative.
As far as I can tell, the Tea Partiers all think they were born into a privileged country, language, religion, and to a lesser extent denomination and race. They don’t want to take stuff from the other, but they don’t want to mix with the other and they want their tax monies to go to their ingroup only. And that’s what they think liberty means: to not have their money benefit the lesser classes.
They even say stuff like “America is #1!” but when you confront them on it, they rarely think Mexicans are subhuman. They just want America for Americans. They just want to live with people like themselves. Honestly, I think they’ve only thought as far as “I don’t like weirdos.” They don’t realize that the only reason they dislike the other in many cases is because they don’t know the other and don’t understand what they don’t know. They don’t realize that close-mindedness => self-segregation => ghettoes => castes with all the best jobs stuck inside the Christian, Rich, American, White group for generations on end and birth ending up choosing your path in life a lot more than hard work. I honestly think Tea Partiers don’t understand that equal rights don’t level the playing field. It’s just colossal ignorance.
*Women should look to men for guidance and financial support and raise children at home because they want to do so (what societal pressure?). Oh, and pregnancy is a natural duty so it’s OK; just one of those things, y’know? Besides, everyone loves babies, so it’s not really a duty – that’s just the hormones talking. And who said pregnancy is about the woman anyway? It’s about the children, the poor little children.
How is this any different from New Atheism?
The last man’s speech was almost identitical to something Hitchens or Harris would say.
Also, Dawkins protesting the Pope’s visit ring a bell?
When does free speech stops being just that and becomes harassment and bullying in America?
The previous comment was, gasp, the horrors, EDITED BY THE BLOG OWNER. (I’ll never hear the end of this, I know.)
Sorry, “Tea Party Man” … not on this post. Just shut the fuck up and contemplate the significance of the following: Nine cents. Because you and yours have it coming.
Wait.. “Hate Comes to Orange County” is the title of that vid? The youtube poster has it backwards, Hate comes FROM orange county.
Robert S. has it right; I grew up there and am never going back. I’d rather live in a cardboard box in the Bay Area than a mansion in Orange County surrounded by Teabaggers.
“The last man’s speech was almost identitical to something Hitchens or Harris would say.”
I’m assuming you’re talking about Gary Miller. When has Hitchens or Harris or Dawkins said anything close to “I’m proud that you hate these people so much.” Because that’s what Miller meant. Context is important.
Disgusting. Hate born from ignorance and petty xenophobia. Have you tried education? It’s marvelous stuff.
The foul taste I got from watching this will never go away. Ugh, that’s it, just ugh.
Want to understand the Tea Partiers? Read this:
It was pretty enlightening for me.
Clam, I’m pretty sure the moneyed elite are deliberately dumbing down U.S. citizens as much as they can. No education, no democracy… which suits them just fine. The question is, what can we do about it?
I’m sick of hearing how the tea party is all about “deficits” and economics. If not for the religious nationalist bigots, the movement you would be nothing but the usual corporate hacks getting a little attention from Fox.
Fear is the steel thread that holds the movement together. Fear of anything not like them, even a little.
The future of America if the Christo-fascists get their way haas never been better demonstrated.
I can’t even watch that. I got to 1:45 and was sick to my stomach. Do they have no shame?
I’m so embarrased for them.
The answer to that question is short and simple. Douchebags.
Teabagger, your posturing about being threatened would be somewhat more convincing if you hadn’t already been booted from here for violent rhetoric. Nice try, though.
TPM @ 24:
If you and your kind are lucky you’ll end up detained in a foreign prison for your treason and crimes against capitalism and eating crackers for the rest of your life while listening to your cellmate habib jafar al muhammed call you an infidel every hour and try to choke you in your sleep.
This boy’s about 51 cards short of playing with a full deck.
Violent rhetoric? I will have you know that I do not belong to a labor union. But thanks for the concern. FLEEBAGGERS usually are more involved with “violent rhetoric”.
Labor union? DOES NOT COMPUTE… REBOOTING…
Oh, and can you at least try to spell “fleabag” correctly?
Oh, he’s talking about this (despite having been linked to the debunking before): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK0eFXa1nX4
(look at the rest of the posts)
Can Greg please plonk him again?
sidhe3141: If I plonk every yahoo (which would be a great song title) then there will believe that yahoos as bad as this don’t really exist.
