My New Old Blog

Before joining, I blogged independently at “Evolution … not just a theory anymore.” That was a cool name for a blog, but I didn’t transfer the name to Scienceblogs because there were already a whole bunch of blogs with “Evolution” in the name. There was a lot of stuff on that blog, mostly not worth saving but a few items of possible interest. Also, I’ve kept a number of things on that site that don’t really fit here at the site, such as lots of links to books I like, a few downloadable research papers, and so on.

Over recent months, “Evolution … not just a theory anymore” has been increasingly vulnerable to nasty attacks from the usual suspects, even though it is just sitting there minding its own business. It turns out that upgrading the very old wordpress installation is tricky, and transferring the database to a new installation is a fool’s errand, especially given that half the junk on the old site is junk. More than half. Well, most.

So, I’ve done something radical.

I’ve created a new blog that is my old blog. It is here. I am slowly transferring selected older posts from the original blog to the new one. Comments are lost along the way, but you may feel free to go back and add new ones! In some cases I’ll be re-ordering old posts in “time” in order to group some of them together, and in most cases I’m simply not going to transfer the old post at all because it just isn’t worth it. Don’t worry, I’m keeping all the good stuff.

In the meantime, I’ve added a store so that you can do ALL of your holiday shopping in one place, and I’ve used a very cool wordpress theme. Also note that in the footer of every page is an instance of the Skeptical Search Engine.

And I’ve got a new project in the works, which is secret, but that I may carry out on the new old blog rather than the new blog because it will be technically easier to do so. I can’t tell you about it yet, but exactly two of you out there in the blogosphere could easily guess.

Among those posts that I’ve transferred so far are the following:

Enjoy the posts, and please stop by the store and the library.

I think many in the blogosphere could guess, but we would probably guess wrong.

    Your secret, that is.

    Are you moving to ???

Charles, I have no plans to leave As it is, I blog a couple/few other places now and then. I’ve got a short term gig at and a long term (as in forever) gig at 10,000 Birds.

I do hope to see something else develop. Maybe I’d blog at Conversations have happened. Maybe Quiche Morain will revive. Conversation have happened. Perhaps I wouldn’t mind having a purely political/social outlet.

On the other hand, having only one blog also makes a lot of sense.

But I like Scienceblogs, and I think the thing with National Geographic is going to develop into something interesting, so there should be no suspense about that side of it.
