First, watch it:

Then, go here to sign the petition!!!!!

A while back a few of us were talking about naming storms and droughts after climate denialists. Maybe this petition will help make that happen!

Too bad they won’t allow foreigners to sign it.

At first I was against this because I was thinking it would divert our energies from doing the serious work but then I realized, we gotta have some fun. So, run the ads, just don’t expect the Hurricane Center to change its naming policy 😉

About 4,000 more people have signed the petition since I signed it this afternoon.

The petition is gaining by 100 or so every few minutes. It should attain its goal before the day is out.

Next up, petitions to name mud volcanoes after Vice-Presidential science historians who shun primary sources, and waterspouts after pols who brag ”

“Throughout most of my life, I raised tobacco. I want you to know that with my own hands, all of my life, I put it in the plant beds and transferred it. I’ve hoed it. I’ve chopped it. I’ve shredded it, spiked it, put it in the barn and stripped it and sold it.”

They blew past the 25,000 mark yesterday and reset it to 50,000. As of this post (2:15 PM EST) the counter is just over 30,000 and is gaining at about 217 every 10 minutes (Yes, I timed it for 3 ten minute intervals.). At that rate they will make their new goal some time early tomorrow afternoon. That’s assuming a slowdown late at night and early morning.

I’m guessing they will reset their goal again. I would like to see it get 250,000 signatures. The idea seems to resonate with the public like a power chord through a Marshall amp on 11.

The folks who made the petition told me early yesterday that they were way over 1,000,000 views. (Of course hardy anybody who looks at petitions actually signs them.)

Golly, when will people realise it’s not as simple as believers and deniers, it’s a complex ongoing debate. Witch hunts like this serve no purpose except to massage the egos of those conducting them. And finally when regarding a debated scientific issue, referring to “deniers” is a disgusting allusion to the holocaust and a childish misrepresentation of a complex issue.

You are quite wrong. There are deiners and the define themselves and what they claim to believe on the basis of what the science says, to oppose what the science says. There is a distinct difference between science-oriented perspectives (which are not “believers” and denailists. That really is how it is right now.

Referring to people who deny science as deniers is not an allusion to the holocaust.

I’m thinking you might be a denier. I’ll call you Donald The Denier.
