Living the Scientific Life (Scientist, Interrupted)

62.5 %

My weblog owns 62.5 % of me.

Does your weblog own you?

I am especially curious to know what my blog siblings scored on this quiz. I think my results are skewed since I am unhappily unemployed, which means that I have no meaningful life whatsoever, outside of my blog, that is. And depending upon whom you speak to about the relative value of blogs, even that assertion is suspect.

    37.5% for me…

  2. #2 John
    March 26, 2006

    37.5% for me, too.

  3. #3 Harlan
    March 26, 2006

    A mere 18.5% for me… Damn, I really ought to write more…! 🙂

  4. #4 Tabor
    March 26, 2006

Odd I am like everyone above, 37.5%. NOTHING owns me, Hedwig.

  5. #5 Dave Munger
    March 26, 2006

Another 37.5er here. What’s up with that?

  6. #6 BEG
    March 26, 2006

I got 18.5% (obvious how the breakdown’s calculated) which is amusing given that I blog something every day. But since I am online all day long because of my profession perhaps that’s why the blog is relatively low…there’s MANY online things I waste my time on (sigh).

    BEG (work? what’s that?)

    6.25%. That’s a lot less than even half-assed, I’m afraid.

  8. #8 Alon Levy
    March 26, 2006

    I’m yet another 37.5%er.

  9. #9 Zeno
    March 26, 2006

My blog owns only 6.25% of me, too. I think I’m only in the earliest stages of adult-onset blogging.

  10. #10 GrrlScientist
    March 26, 2006

i succumbed to adult onset blogging much more quickly than you (well, it actually took me about one year), although you DO have a decent job, so i suspect that helps you to maintain your equilibrium.

  11. #11 coturnix
    March 26, 2006

18.75%. I can’t believe it. I’d have thunk it was closer to 100%!

  12. #12 GrrlScientist
    March 26, 2006

wow, i would have predicted something closer to 100% for you, too. what happened?

A lot of questions are “iffy” or have two parts. Do I have multiple blogs? Yes. Do I post every day on each one of them? No – I do it on Sci & Pol, but I can lapse as long as a week on Circadiana and Magic School Bus. So, what is the real sense of that question? I thought that “having multiple blogs on which I post more or less regularly” is sufficient to warrant a ‘Yes’, although technically not correct. All of the questions have similar problems – I gained or lost points on technicalities.

  14. #14 Ronald Brak
    March 26, 2006

0% Perhaps I should post more often?

  15. #15 Phil Plait
    March 26, 2006

31.25 for me. But, I don’t date (married), my blog is part of my previously-constructed website, and I only have one.

  16. #16 Phil Plait
    March 27, 2006

Oh wait! I do have two blogs! I write on Huffington Post. I guess maybe I should have a slightly higher percentage. 🙂

  17. #17 Caio de Gaia
    March 27, 2006

0%, damn may be I have a life after all.

  18. #18 Susan Och
    March 27, 2006

I’m at 43.75% My husband might complain that this was true. I wonder how much the kids, my paying job, my volunteer work, the garden and the chickens get? (We’re not even considering the housework.)

I’m guessing that the parts of our lives add up to way more than 100%.

    March 27, 2006

12.5% for me. that seems kind of low, but i do have lapses in my posts sometimes. i go through periods where i post daily (sometimes multiple posts in a day), then i could go for as long as a week without posting. i also have a couple of blogs, but i don’t update them daily.

It’s a good idea, and a neat joke. Unfortunately, it calls up a community which can directly compare the quality of the test with their own reality – that is, it measures something substantive for people who understand what is being measured.

Hard ask to get a meaningful test in that environment. Or a good challenge for some serious student of tests.

Now, if we were polling on which cockroach we are, it would be taken a lot more lightly. Someone should do that.

In response to sudden light, you are more likely to a) run towards the food, b) push your flat little body into a crack c) dump half a million babies and run for the back door d) wave your antenna and threaten the mammal with 32 different ugly bacterial infections.

  21. #21 Rexroth's Daughter

    Scored a measly 18.5%. Figures.

  22. #22 wolf21m
    March 28, 2006

A very disappointing 6.25%. Not sure what I would do with multiple blogs. I just post it all in the same can.

    zero percent.

hahaha! I have a blog….. but apparently i’m not owned by it. haha
