GrrlScientist is an evolutionary biologist, ornithologist, aviculturist, birder and freelance science and nature writer. A native of the Pacific Northwest, she relocated from Seattle to NYC with her parrots after earning a BS in Microbiology (emphasis in Virology) and PhD in Zoology (Ornithology) from the University of Washington. In NYC, she was the Chapman Postdoctoral Fellow at the American Museum of Natural History for two years, pursuing part of her "dream" research project by reconstructing a molecular phylogeny of the parrots of the South Pacific islands. GrrlScientist and her five parrots are currently relocating to Germany, where she will continue writing her blog while also writing a book and learning German. (Meanwhile, her parrots will continue to nibble on her extensive personal library.) What European City Do You Belong in?

Topic Categories:

You Belong in Dublin
Friendly and down to earth, you want to enjoy Europe without snobbery or pretensions. You're the perfect person to go wild on a pub crawl... or enjoy a quiet bike ride through the old part of town.

What's your city?

My other city (depending upon how I answered question 5) was Amsterdam.

  • I belong in Paris? from Respectful Insolence
More blog filling, thanks to GrrlScientist. Really, though, if I belong in any European city at all, I'd have guessed London, but the test says otherwise: You Belong in Paris You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you... Read More

Hey - I got Dublin, too. I wonder what are the other choices! Is Stockholm on there? Florence? Budapest? Prague?

I played around, changing answers, and discovered Amsterdam, Milan and London. What else is there?

I got Amsterdam each time despite adjusting some answers. I guess that means I better go there.

I got Edinburgh. I already live in Edinburgh.

Amsterdam is a great place! I'd love to live there. Many years ago, my Mom was offered a great job there. After a couple of months of deep thinking and discussing the offer in the family, she decided to refuse the offer. If she took the job, I would have grown up Dutch!

***You Belong in Paris***

You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris.
You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.

It should read, "In which European city do you belong?" I also belong in Dublin. Fun town.

I belong in Amsterdam, and I just moved to Amsterdam to do my PhD (9 days ago). Lucky me?

It seems impossible for me not to belong in Amsterdam, which is a bit of a bummer as I live in Helsinki. I tried to get close to the Helsinki answers, and still ended up in Amsterdam. I guess that's because Q6 didn't have either "Anything with liqourice" or "Another koskenkorva" as answers.

I think the quiz should read: "Which European city would a stranger guess you were from?" As with romance, no one belongs with a clone of themselves; you need someone who complements you. So, a stranger "would guess I'm from" Amsterdam.

But living & working among the more extroverted Catalans & Spaniards in Barcelona, over the long term, forced me to be less socially awkward. Lots of hot guys & girls there too -- that'll open you right up. AFAIK, neither sex travels to Finland to be seduced.

i belong in paris no matter which way i answer question 5. i actually took the quiz four times, changing the answers to questions 4 and 5 (since they were the ones i couldn't really decide on one answer to), and i got paris every time. too bad i spent four years learning spanish instead of french, huh?
